Lead | Omer Seamon Signed Watercolor, Winter Sport 1990 |
Description |
Seamon, D. Omer (American 1911-1997). Winter Sport, 1990. Watercolor. Signed and dated lower right with purchase details and additional information in an envelope verso. 13 1/4" x 21" (Sight). 20" x 27 3/4" (Frame). Double matted in a gilt and painted wood frame. Nicely framed, good conditions, clear colors. Not examined out of frame. Wired and ready to hang.
D. Omer "Salty" Seamon (1911-1997) was an American painter known for his folksy watercolors and landscapes of Indiana and the Midwest. His work can be found in galleries and homes across the United States. He was born Denzil Omer Seamon in Gibson County, Indiana, to parents Louis and Estel Seamon. He began drawing at an early age, sketching pictures to send along with letters his parents sent to an older brother fighting in World War I.
After serving in World War II, Seamon devoted his time to becoming a full-time freelance artist. He and his wife Marjorie "Polly" Kress and stepson Edgar Mechling moved to a home near Rosedale, Indiana, where Seamon had a painting studio. He became well known in the Wabash Valley area. In addition to selling paintings directly to members of the community, Seamon annually created arts for the Forrest Sherer Agency Christmas cards. His work was even available on personal checks from Terre Haute First National Bank. Seamon often painted the local people and places he saw around him, from covered bridges and rivers to specific locales including the Vigo County Courthouse, the Indiana Theatre and the Church of the Immaculate Conception, all in Vigo County, Indiana. In 1980 Seamon was named a "Sagamore of the Wabash" by Indiana governor Otis Bowen. Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has shown a particular appreciation for Seamon, granting him an honorary doctorate in 1979 and creating a collection of many of his works.
EDS aims to describe and photograph all items thoroughly and accurately, however other conditions present may not have been observed or noted. We encourage you to inspect items in person during preview or by appointment, or to ask questions before bidding. Oversized and/or framed art pieces require additional shipping and handling fees, often at substantial cost for larger pieces; it MAY be possible to remove works on paper from their frames to save on costs.

For new bidders whom we don't have any history, EDS wants to clarify how important your business and bids are. Having said that, we ask that you understand if our staff calls and ask for information or details about you or the payment transaction, this is simply a precaution to protect us from fraud. Chargebacks to credit cards cost us every season. Sometimes these charges are legitimate because of a mistake or error on our end or yours. Unfortunately, more often than not, these chargebacks are the result of a stolen card or a fraudulent buyer. We ask that you please understand our position. We simply cannot ship items to out of state bidders without assurance that the payment is secure and in our account. In some cases, especially where the items purchased are higher value lots, we may ask for a check, USPS money order or a wire transfer payment. We will look at your bidding history with us and on Hi-Bid and make these decisions based on that information. We hope this will not be a deterrent to honest and serious buyers and we ask that you call us at 812-822-2508 if you have ANY questions or concerns before bidding.
