Lead 1937 COCA-COLA SERVING TRAY ~ RUNNING BEACH GIRL
Description
> PICKUP in LIBERTY, MS or McCOMB, MS by APPOINTMENT < Distributed by the Coca-Cola Company, this lithographed tin tray was produced in 1937 and known as the "Girl in Yellow Swimsuit" tray, also known as "The Running Girl" ~ This tray features a young woman in a yellow swimsuit, joyfully running on a beach with two Coca-Cola bottles in her hands. Measuring 10 x 13 overall, with a border raised to about 1" featuring rolled edges ~ To the lower border of the illustration, diminutive lettering reads > c THE COCA-COLA CO. 1937 along with the name of the manufacturer, AMERICAN ART WORKS, INC. ~ COSHOCTON, O. The 1930s were transitional years for Coca-Cola trays, with the company moving away from purely functional designs towards more artistic, Art Deco style. The first known Coca-Cola serving tray was produced in 1897. These early trays were primarily functional, used by soda fountain clerks to serve drinks and visually remind customers of the brand. The trays were initially round, then oval, and eventually settled on the rectangular shape that became the standard. In 1925, Coca-Cola began offering trays for sale to individual bottlers, who then distributed them to customers through various promotions. This marked a shift in the purpose of the trays, from purely utilitarian to collectible items. The imagery on the trays evolved to reflect popular culture trends, often featuring beautiful women, festive scenes, and iconic Coca-Cola branding. CONDITION REPORT > Notable elements relative to age, use and materials ~ Expect a varying degree of scratches, blemishes and some areas of surface rust to the rolled edges.
