Description |
All pieces appear to be holding firm though there are several fractures in the mushroom of only cosmetic concern. Mushroom measures 19 inches across X 19 inches tall. Frog and rabbits are concrete and holding firm with cosmetic wear to the finish. Young child statue is resin with a cracked arm.

Island Auction Co. is honored to be selling the contents of Meekins Anchorage (Ca.1805), one of the Oldest Estates in Dare County, NC located on Roanoke Island. The contents of the Anchorage are being sold for the benefit of the living Estate of Celia Rollinson Meekins while the 218 year old Ancestral home known as Meekins Anchorage will be donated to the Roanoke Island Historical Association in accordance with the wishes of her late husband, Roger P. Meekins.
Meekins Anchorage is filled with the evidence of all 5 Generations of previous occupants but it is extensively filled with the personal effects of both Roger & D. Victor Meekins who were both newspaper men & photographers with a nice selection of local photography, books & ephemera from the early 19thC to the 1990's. There is also a large wood working shop as well as a John Deere 140 Lawn Tractor and a large selection of Juniper Wood. There are Tools from the 19thC to present day, Fishing & Nautical Items, a Library of Books, Stoneware Pottery, Furniture from every decade from the past 150 years, Militaria from the Civil War to the Vietnam War, typical estate items & tons of local history.
PLEASE TAKE NOTE: Several years ago Roger Meekins donated most of his & his fathers photographic collection and negatives to the Outer Banks History Center. What we are offering for sale in this auction are D.V. & Roger Meekins personal and original copies of photos etc.
We would like to thank The Roanoke Island Historical Association, the Outer Banks History Center & Island Farm as well as Mary Blanche Meekins for their insight ,assistance & guidance with historical photos and identifications.
While we are bound by contract to sell the contents of this historical estate It is our hope that all of the historical items specific to this home/area will be purchased by one of the local historical societies and preserved for generations to come.
D. Victor Meekins (1897-1964) was a Roanoke Island resident, photographer, Dare County Sheriff, Founder of (The Dare County Times), editor of the Coastland Times newspaper, real estate speculator, and prominent Outer Banks citizen during the first half of the 20th century.
Roger Preston Meekins was born in (1930-2018) at Meekins Anchorage, on Roanoke Island to D. Victor Meekins & Catherine Deaton Meekins. His father (D.V.) created & ran the local newspaper & by the age of 7, Roger began his own newspaper, The Sunnyside Press. By the age of 17 he had his private pilot’s license and he often flew with his father up-and-down the Outer Banks taking photos along the way. In 1954 he was called to active duty with USAF, where he spent the next 20 years seeing brief action during the vietnam war. In the 1980's Roger started a succesful cottage furniture business.

Loading purchased items is the sole responsibility of the buyer. Island Auction Co. is not liable for any loss or personal injury that may occur during that process.
All online purchases must be paid for upon receipt of invoice & prior to pick-up.

Pick up is done at the responsibility of the buyer. All packing, handling, shipping and delivery services are performed at the sole risk of the buyer. Purchases must be paid for in full prior to pick up.
SHIPPING:
Furniture Items can not be shipped by Island Auction Co. Smaller Lots can always be shipped and will incur a Seperate shipping charge which will be invoiced to the buyer the following week when items are packed.
