Items must be picked up and paid for within seventy-two (72) hours of the auction's conclusion. Debit cards must be processed in-house using a PIN; otherwise, the payment will be processed as credit cards defaulting at the 18% buyer's premium. " B and D Auctions reserves the right to require payment by wire transfer. " Maryland Sales Tax of 6% is added onto all purchases unless the buyer has a MD Sales and Tax Use number on file with B and D Auctions or the buyer has spent under $200.00. Auction Dates and Bidding: " Bidding for the auction will commence on September 27th 2024, and conclude on October 6th, 2024. " The auction features a "soft close" mechanism, whereby any bid placed within the last minute of a lot's scheduled closing will extend the closing time by an additional one (1) minute. Other lots will continue to close as scheduled. " To ensure that your bid is recorded, we recommend placing bids well before closing time as computer, internet, or user errors can occur. Inspection and Condition: " All lots are sold in "as is" condition. In-person inspection of items is highly recommended. " If you are unable to inspect items in person, please contact us for a detailed condition report. We are willing to provide additional photographs and information upon request. " Lots are sold as pictured, with many being group lots that will not be separated. The highest bid wins the entire grouping. " By placing a bid, the bidder signifies that they have examined the items to their satisfaction or have chosen not to personally examine them and accepts the "as is" condition.. " Electronics are powered on for pictures. If not pictured powered on buyers are to understand that electronic does not power on. They are not further tested beyond powering on. High-Value Bids: " Prospective bidders intending to place a bid exceeding two thousand dollars ($2,000) on any given lot must contact the auctioneer for pre-approval prior to placing the bid. B&D Auctions reserves the right to decline any bid or any bidder. Preview and Pickup: " Item preview will be available during the auction period from Wednesday to Friday, 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM, and on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. No appointment is required for preview. " No appointment is necessary for pick-ups. All pickups must be completed within seventy-two (72) hours of the auction's conclusion unless alternative arrangements are made with the auctioneer. " All credit cards on file will be processed on Monday morning following the close of the sale, and invoices will be emailed thereafter. As a young man, Burt worked for the City of Salisbury Public Works Department where he became a draftsman in the engineering office. He gained interest in surveying and became a self- taught surveyor who was quite proud that he passed the licensing test on his first examination. Upon obtaining a professional surveyors license, he was self- employed for several years. He later worked for the Wicomico County Public Works Department retiring in 1999 as Assistant Superintendent after 18 years of service. Marvin honorably served our country as a Master Sergeant in the U. S. Marine Corps for 20 years from 1956-76. After retiring from the Marine Corps, he moved with his family to Milford, and began working for the State of Delaware, Dept. of Labor for over 20 years. Marvin was very active in the Milford School District serving on the Board of Education for over 30 years. While being a member of the Board, he served as President multiple times. He served and was President of the Milford Historical Society for many years, in the restoration of the Parson Thorne Mansion. He was the Milford Museum commissioner in charge of many exhibits, such as The Vietnam War, The Battle of Iwo Jima, and The Civil War. For over 50 years, Marvin studied and had a profound interest in the life and military career of General Alfred Thomas Archimedes Torbert (1833-1880) of the U.S. Army, one of Delaware's most notable sons. Marvin edited the only book written about General Torbert titled, "A.T.A. Torbert, Southern Gentleman in Union Blue" by Nancy Slade. Marvin was one of the persons the book was dedicated to. Marvin founded and was the first Commander of the General Torbert Camp of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. In this capacity, he took the leadership role to restore the Milford Union Cemetery where 12 Civil War soldiers and one from the Spanish American War is buried. In 1969, Marvin was the only person to attempt to save General Torbert's house in Milford from destruction. This was an endeavor that was unsuccessful. Marvin worked to save and preserve other Milford historical properties. In honor of General Torbert and his service to our country, Marvin successfully spearheaded the effort to have a statue of General A.T.A. Torbert erected on the grounds of the Milford Museum. Marvin served on the Civil War Society that established the Delaware Memorial/Monument at Gettysburg National Military Park to commemorate the service of those Delawareans that fought at the battle of Gettysburg. Marvin received a Tribute from the Delaware House of Representatives for his work and his accomplishment 137 years after the battle. Marvin was an honorable and distinguished icon of Milford who will truly be missed by all. This is one of the most important sales of our time for local and regional Civil War Memorabilia.
