This item was offered in an earlier sale and failed to make it's reserve. The consignor, who is moving doesn't have a place for it in their new home and has asked me to relist it this time with no reserve. This Antique Rifle dates to around the 1860s and is one of the Swiss STUTZER / Feldstutzer that is a fairly scarce item here in the states. It is from a local consignor "and has been her family a long time" and was inherherited from her uncle who clollected vintage firearms. Marked C T Bannenaguer Er A Liestal this rifle was made by one of Switzerlands 71 Federal Gunsmiths in the mid 1800s. Simular to the Stutzer sporting rifle this, for lack of a better word, carbine is in the classic style except for the semi hooded front sight. Short, but weighing about 10.5 pounds, when fitted with a bayonet , which we don't have, these were formidable weapons. The adjustable rear range sight made this an accurate rifle and the choice for sharp shooters in the Swiss mountian regions. It is 50" Long, 11" Wide, 1 3/4" Deep. A single shot ball and cap, Two triggers one of which is a set trigger, this rifle does not have a half cock. The ram rod is a replacement or dowel wedged in the holder under the barrel. The stock is in in excellent condition as is as the metal. This rifle has been well taken care of over the years. The butt plate its self is a thing of beauty as is the trigger guard. There is some solder near the end of the flaired barrel where the bayonett lug was removed se photos for details. All in all, this is a fine example that any collector would be proud to own.
