[Manuscript Financial Records] 8 handwritten volumes maintained by the Druid Hill Building and Loan Association of Baltimore City, of which 6 record the Association’s meetings, 1 contains member records, and 1 is an index organized by member names. Organized in 1873 in Baltimore, its purpose was to make loans to its members, usually for the purchase of real estate or homes. In 1903 membership was at 400, and the association moved to a permanent location at 1108 Pennsylvania Ave. 1st meeting record volume (May 20, 1873 - Oct. 3, 1882 and Oct. 10, 1882) is handwritten in German. 2nd meeting volume (Oct. 10, 1882 - Sep. 27, 1887) begins in German, but is generally in English beginning with the 627th meeting, June 2, 1885. The other 4 meeting record volumes are in English, and cover Apr. 15, 1890 - Mar. 5, 1895; Oct. 17, 1905 - Sep. 13, 1910; Oct. 18, 1910 - Feb. 27, 1917; and Jan. 29, 1924 - Aug. 12, 1930. Dues were collected in person at meetings. The member account records volume mostly covers 1895-1916. Folio. Contemp bdgs (4 vols full leather, 2 half leather and cloth, 2 full cloth). Bdgs worn, losses to leather, 2 vols lack all of their spine, other vols have wear to spines. Interior condition is mostly very good. Sold with all faults.
