This allows for a magnifier or iron sights to be positioned close to the sight body. In addition to this, a portion of the front base has been raised to fit over the standard hand guards found on many AR-15 type weapons. Making this sight even more convenient is the use of normal AA alkaline batteries (lithium AA or rechargeable AA batteries can also be used).
