Lead MIDNIGHT JAPANESE SIDE PART AMERICAN GIRL IN MPINK
Description
• This star, who is one of our cover girls of the auction, is destined to be your top shelf favorite • This rare doll, exclusively offered to the Japanese market, features beautifully luxurious dark hair in a rich Midnight hue. Her hair is held perfectly in place with its original turquoise ribbon and a delicate silk string, preserving its timeless elegance and charm • Her outstanding face paint showcases vibrant, high-color details with stunning smoky blue eyeshadow, captivating deep blue eyes, and rich raspberry lips. A soft touch of blush adds to her radiant complexion, making her features truly stand out and enhancing her overall beauty. • Face vinyl is fresh and peachy and as is typical with these dolls, she has subtle hint of fading at tip of nose and at chin area • In doing our research we found these dolls were sold on three different bodies: Pink European Bendable Leg Body, Pink Standard Body and occasionally a Tan S/L Body. • Body is the pink Euro bendable leg version body • She comes wearing her stunning Midnight Pink ensemble, this combination of the doll and fashion is absolutely exquisite • Often coined “Midnight Pink” by collectors, this spectacular fashion is offered in excellent plus to near mint condition with no fading to the beautiful satin fabric. Fabric is soft and not stiff, no stains or tears and great outfit label inside, fray at edge of label, does not appear laundered • White faux fur collar on cape is paper white and beautiful • This extremely hard to find variation made of the same pattern as Midnight Blue with a HTF silver pink lame bodice which is the fabric from Skipper’s Class tutu and a beautiful pink satin skirt and cape • Fun factoid is that more than likely collectors named these outfits “Midnight Pink or Midnight Red” as they actually had no name or outfit number • Another fun fact is that these 1971/72 ensembles have no definite date of production, more than likely it was between the 1965 Midnight Blue date as the clean-up procedure that began in 1971. Whether Mattel made them all in 1965 and shelved the pink and red version or rediscovered the pattern in 1971 and decided to use up the remaining material remains a mystery • There are several theories regarding these very exclusive outfits which was never seen in a booklet or Mattel catalog • One theory says that Mattel created a pink and red version of Midnight Blue in 1965 and these versions were not marketed until several years later when they appeared on dressed boxed dolls which were packaged for the foreign market • Another theory states that Mattel decided to use up left over fabrics in the early 1970’s when they decided to close down their Japanese manufacturing plant. They utilized left over fabrics to create these fashions and again were never sold as outfits, but ended up on dolls packaged for the European market • This set has been seen in both pink and red satin • I have not found documentation that accessories were included with Midnight Pink or Midnight Red. This set includes long white gloves, pink OT heels, silver dimple clutch and pearl necklace • What a magnificent item to add to your collection • She is certainly an auction favorite and will be your favorite as well • Suggested $3995-$4295
