Henry Martyn Leland founded Lincoln after parting ways with Cadillac. When the first Lincolns hit the market in September 1920, they were met with great enthusiasm from the press. However, slow production and a nationwide economic downturn pushed the company into financial difficulties. In 1922, Henry Ford stepped in, purchasing Lincoln for eight million dollars, saving the company from collapse.
Lincoln became a prized part of Ford's portfolio, with Edsel Ford overseeing much of its development. Edsel’s keen design sense modernized Lincoln's image, moving away from the boxy Leland-era bodies. He also worked closely with renowned coach builders like Brunn, Judkins, Willoughby, Murphy, and Locke to craft elegant and luxurious designs that were featured in Lincoln’s catalogs.
One such design was the four-passenger phaeton, attributed to Hermann Brunn from Buffalo, New York. Although Brunn had originally been commissioned by Leland to create the 1923 models, it was Ford who ultimately put these designs into production. Brunn’s small-scale workshop couldn't handle the full production, so the American Body Company, also based in Buffalo, was contracted for the build. Between 1923 and 1926, American Body produced 2,726 of this particular Lincoln style, with 829 manufactured in 1924. This vehicle’s body number is 793, a testament to the craftsmanship of the era.
This particular vehicle was in the process of being restored, and significant work has already been completed. We have receipts, pictures, and records documenting the restoration progress, with all parts organized and ready for the next enthusiast to pick up the reins. With its rich history and promising condition, this classic is waiting for someone to bring it back to its former glory.
A unique feature that was called "The Fat Man's Steering Wheel" it folds down to let a big man in.
The Buyer's Guide for this vehicle is (As-is No Warrantee). The information you see on the window form (Buyer's Guide) for this vehicle is part of the contract. Information on the window form overrides any contrary provisions. $32 Title fee will be charged. A lien will be placed on any titleable inventory purchased by check, cashier's check or money order and will be released when funds clear.
