Lead 2004 Ford F-150 XLT Supercab 8' bed 2wd
Description
2004 Ford F-150 XLT Supercab Pickup Truck w/2WD, 8’ Bed & Fiberglass Topper, 1 Owner: clear title This truck does have some flaws and is far from perfect, but even with its flaws, it is still a pretty nice driving truck! We are the original owners for just over twenty years. We are moving, though, and won’t be able to take it with us. It has successfully served as a second vehicle for us for almost eight years. The original engine is a 5.4 Liter electronic fuel injection V-8. Factory options on the truck include two-tone paint, a 4.10 ratio limited slip rear axle, power moonroof (please read operating condition comments later in this description,) power sliding rear window, a trailer tow package, fog lamps, keyless entry, heated power rear view mirrors, electronic interior rear view mirror, 8200 pound GVWR package, LT245/70RX17 tires, a 35.7 gallon fuel tank, and a power driver’s side seat. An aftermarket locking fiberglass topper is also in place. Although the truck and engine have just over 281,000 miles on them, it runs great with no real issues to mention. With its age, we don’t suggest drag racing the engine but with normal driving, it isn’t showing any mechanical issues. On a VERY limited occasion, the starter will squeal when you turn the key, but that happens so little that we haven’t addressed it. Turning the key off and trying the second time ALWAYS starts the engine, without fail. The dashboard trouble light for the ABS brakes is constantly lit but we had it checked a couple times quite some time ago (in 2013) and the mechanics indicated that there is a short in the electrical line somewhere that they can’t find, but it does NOT affect the braking. The brakes work as they should. Since it’s been almost eleven years since that diagnosis and the brakes have been working fine ever since, having the light on hasn’t bothered us. Otherwise, there are no other mechanical glitches to mention. It runs, drives, and brakes well and is never a concern to drive. It has an electronic four speed automatic transmission with overdrive, power steering and power brakes. While we’ve had the truck, in addition to normal scheduled maintenance, we’ve had the transmission rebuilt and replaced the head gaskets in 2007; replaced the steering shaft assembly and fuel pump driver module in 2008; replaced the #4 and #6 coils and installed a new windshield in 2009; replaced a window regulator in 2010; replaced the #5 and #7 coils along with the thermostat housing seal in 2011; replaced the fan belt, front struts, and rear end cover, as well as addressed the aforementioned ABS brake light in 2013; replaced the power steering line, rack and pinion and power steering pump, alternator, idler pullies and belt, oil pan gasket, ball joints, shocks and tie rods in 2014; replaced the turn signal lever and starter in 2015; replaced the rear brake calipers and manual lever position for the transmission in 2016; replaced the throttle body unit in 2017; replaced a brake line in 2018; replaced a brake fitting and fuel line in 2019; replaced the power steering line and pulley, transmission line, drive shaft, transmission housing, and brake compression fitting in 2020; replaced the fuel pump and muffler in 2021; and replaced the vapor cannister vent valve and solenoid along with the passenger power window regulator in 2023. As mentioned, all other regularly scheduled maintenance was also performed including oil changes every 3000 miles. Although it does currently go through a LITTLE bit of oil between changes, it is less than a quart and has never been an issue or concern. This is a 20-year old truck, it’s far from new, but has been taken care of over the years and has had any necessary maintenance done, as needed. Included are the original owner’s manual, warranty guide, scheduled maintenance guide, driving your truck guide, safety advice card, truck loading guidelines sheet, Ford roadside assistance card, and truck topper warranty information. The exterior of the truck is in fair overall shape, but it certainly isn't perfect. The far front of the hood has paint that has chipped away. Around and behind both rear tires there is some rust-through in the rear quarter panels. None is horrible but there is not only surface rust but also some small holes. The floor of the bed also has a lot of scratches and gouges from hauling things over the years. There are also some areas of rust, not horrible, but you can see a little bit of daylight through a couple of them. The bed is solid and sturdy, though, no issues with hauling anything. The right side shows a couple spots where a parking lot backer-upper put a small dent in the rear quarter panel and just behind the front bumper. Neither is horrible, especially for a truck of this age, but I did want to mention them. Small indents, not smashed fenders! The two side windshield gaskets began to leak so they have been taped with black duct tape for YEARS and no water enters the cab, they are water tight. There are also many other minor imperfections in the form of miscellaneous small nicks, chips, and scratches. The paint on the topper has chipped away in spots, more so on the driver’s side, but there is also some missing paint on the top and passenger sides to a lesser degree. You will need to replace the tires before you do any extended driving. Most of the treads are worn down but they still function adequately, but I’m not sure for how long. The spare tire is full sized and is stored under the bed and it is in place. The original jack is still in place under the rear seat in the cab. The interior is also in fairly nice shape, but again, isn’t perfect. Everything is original. The bucket seats are in pretty nice shape but the driver’s seat has a small tear in the left side where you slide onto the seat. Otherwise, both are in pretty nice shape, with some staining to the fabrics. The rear seats are in better condition as far as the fabric, but they also have some staining, none that is horrible, but it is there. The dash and steering wheel are original and look very nice. I believe all gauges are working correctly except the ABS light which continues to be lit, as previously described. The cup holder in the center of the dash originally was able to be pushed into the dash to make it disappear but something has happened that now doesn’t allow it to be pushed in. It is always out. The carpet and mats are in fairly nice shape with more staining. The driver’s mat has torn its clip out of the carpet resulting in a small hole in the carpet. The door panels are also in nice shape as is the headliner. The moonroof will need to be repaired to be operational. Recently, one of the metal rods that controls its movement either broke or slipped out of its slot. The result is that the moonroof will only open or close a small amount. Since you still can see out the roof (unless you slide the cover over it, which is in place,) we haven’t addressed fixing it. To make sure that it is water tight and completely closed, we taped the roof weather strips with black duct tape and the moonroof remains water tight until it is repaired. I don’t think it is anything major since it looks like a rod is the glitch, but we ran out of time to have it fixed. As it stands, you can start and drive this truck immediately, but will most likely need to replace the tires sometime soon. Twenty years old and 281,000 miles testifies to its past reliability! This F-150 has been a daily driver and can certainly fill the role of a secondary vehicle with the ability to haul some loads.
