Lead Medal of Honor Autographs 19th-20th Centuries (4)
Description
3 index cards and 1 smaller card with signatures of Congressional Medal of Honor recipients from the 19th and early 20th centuries. We believe one to be William R. Parnell, but we are not certain (smaller card - Army - received for action in the 1877 Nez Perce War). Born in Ireland, he had previously fought with the British Army at Balaclava, and was part of the Charge of the Light Brigade. He later fought for the Union in the Civil War, seeing action at Second Bull Run, and after escaping a POW camp, Spotsylvania. *** Frank C. High (Army - Young's Scouts - received for action in May 1899 during the Philippine-American War) *** William Zuiderveld (Navy - received for action at the 1914 Battle of Veracruz) *** Albert J. Smith (Marine Corps - 1921 rescue of a sailor from a burning seaplane).
