#1- What if…Spider-Man Joined The Fantastic Four? Premiere issue of the series that began in 1977 and told stories set in alternate universes outside of the Marvel mainstream where anything was possible.
#18- First appearance of an evil version of Doctor Strange, an ally of Dormmamu.
#39- First battle of Thor vs Conan the Barbarian.
#47- Cover art by Bill Sienkiewicz.
What if (1989)- #1-25, 27-55, 59, 60, 62, 64, 81, 83, 87, 91, 97, 98, 100.
#4- First non-continuity appearance of the Hulk and Thor bonded to the Venom Symbiote.
#16- First battle of Wolverine vs Conan.
#25- Includes a one-page story titled 'What if the Punisher were a Herald of Galactus' which has Frank riding a space motorcycle with two massive guns he used to destroy a planet, reminiscent of Cosmic Ghost Rider.
#29- Debut of Punisher/Iron Man armor. Cover art inspired by The Avengers #4 (1964).
#31- First appearance of the alternate reality Cosmic Spider-Man who kept his extreme powers following the 'Acts of Vengeance' story line.
#33- Cameo appearance of Omega Red. Issue went on sale the same day as his first full appearance in X-Men #4. A pin-up included a preview sketch of Omega Red in X-Men #1 (1992). Cover art inspired by The Uncanny X-Men #142 (1981).
#42- First appearance of Spider-Man with six arms. Story is based on events that occured in The Amazing Spider-Man #100 where Peter Parker developed a potion to remove his powers resulted in the growth of four additional arms. Cover art inspired by Amazing Fantasy #15.
#44- Alternate reality story where the Venom symbiote bonds with the Punisher.
#45- First and final appearance of Barbara Ketch as Ghost Rider.
