Description
First World War soldier portrait by Norfolk County artist and historian William Edgar Cantelon (b1866-d.1950). Portrait is of Flight Lieutenant John Harold Butler (brother of Gordon Butler LOT#23b), of Simcoe. Enlisted with the Royal Flying Corps. at Toronto. Died Oct. 12, 1918 of Spanish Flu. Frame measures 19 by 24.5 inches.

All lots with shipping are marked "Shipping Available" on their listing. Shipping is only available WITHIN CANADA. Buyers pay all shipping costs with handling fees which will be charged after winning bids are determined. See Shipping/Pick up link for details. Items will be shipped within two weeks of shipping and handling payment received. Items are shipped on Mondays and Thursdays with Canada Post. Buyer must contact Illieston Auctions & Estates by email for a shipping quote no later than 1 week after the end of the sale, or items will be considered forfeited. REGISTRATION & IDENTIFICATION: At the time of registration, we collect information about you to verify your identity before placing bids. Credit card information is collected to ensure that you are a qualified buyer. All bidders must be of legal age to bid. Illieston Auctions reserves the right to refuse registration to our auctions or to refuse to recognize any or all bids from any particular person or persons at any time with no notice. PAYING FOR YOUR PURCHASES: There is no cost to register for an auction. Your credit card will NOT be automatically charged. When an auction closes, all winning bidders will receive an e-mail with an attached invoice from info@illiestonauctions.com. It will calculate the Buyer's Premium at 12% by default. The Buyer's Premium will remain at 12% if paying by cash or e-transfer, and a 3% surcharge will be added to the Buyer's Premium if paying by credit card. All items must be paid for prior to release. We suggest paying by e-transfer at least one hour before pick up in case of delays with e-banking. Payment due within 4 days or your credit card on fiile will be charged. REVIEWING YOUR BIDS: During an auction you can check the status of your bids at anytime. Note that no bids can be withdrawn after the auction for any reason. All items are sold as is, where is, with all faults. BIDDING NOTIFICATIONS: You can choose to be notified by e-mail during the auction if you have been outbid. Please note that outbid notifications are NOT sent out during the last two hours of the sale. PICKUPS & REMOVALS: The purchaser can pay for their items by cash and credit card at pick up. We do not accept debit cards. Items will not be released when the invoice is paid. All items must be removed by posted time and date. Removal shall be at the expense, liability, and risk of the purchaser. Do not bid if you are unable to have your items picked up or pay for shipping and handling. Items are sold as is, where is, with all faults. Any item not picked up during the posted pickup times will be considered an forfeited. If you abandon an item, your credit card will be charged for the purchase price of the item plus 15% Buyer's Premium and applicable taxes. **NEW** All items must be picked up, or shipping arrangements made within one week of the day of sale. NOTE: Items not shipped or picked up more than two weeks will incur storage fees at a rate of $5.00 per lot, per day (regardless of size or value). SOFT CLOSE: Items close at regular intervals. To prevent a bidder from 'sniping', all bids made in the last minute of the auction will force an item to stay open for an additional allotted time. This will continue until all bidding has ceased. STRATEGY: We recommend that ALL BIDDERS put in their maximum bid when placing a bid online. This does not mean you will have to pay the amount you bid; you only pay one bid more than the next highest bid, and only up to your maximum bid. The software system will play out the bids as you would at a live auction and only uses the funds required to beat out the under-bidder at the prescribed bid increment. CATALOGUE ERRORS & OMISSIONS: If a description does not match a picture in a lot, the description takes precedence. All items are sold on an 'as is, where is' basis, with all faults.
