This is a decent working EM (electro-mechanical) pinball machine that is SIXTY years old! Hard to believe. Finally something that is older than me. Such a cute, old-fashioned theme too. If you're looking for an innocent, family-friendly themed pinball machine, look no further - SWING TIME!
The game is definitely showing signs of its age. The backglass is getting pretty flaky - most of the flesh-tone colors are flaking off. It still retains enough paint to look decent in my opinion, but definitely not collector quality. The cabinet is in decent shape, but it also has paint flaking and some wear and tear. At least it hasn't been repainted....it still bears the original factory paint.
The playfield is actually in much better condition - very little wear or at least very little paint worn off. I would say it's 98% intact paint on the playfield. And the plastics are just about perfect! It really looks great on the playfield. The coin door is a little rusty, and the coin acceptance hardware is missing. The game is just on free play. It would be possible to make this coin operable again, but it would not be easy. You would need to source the missing parts, which I'm sure are available out there but would take some looking. But if you just want this in your rec room or a free play arcade, then this really doesn't matter.
This game actually plays quite well, as you can see from the video above. It's a fairly simple game, as are most pre-1980 pinballs. But still fun. I learned when I was in college that any pinball can be super fun if you have competition. I had a couple of roommates that were pretty competitive and any game I pulled into the apartment, we would have a blast trying to beat each other. I don't know that this game is operating 100% perfectly because I just didn't scrutinize it that carefully. But I can say that it seems to be fully working. You start the game, it resets the scores, everything seems to be scoring, all the score relays are working right, all the coils and switches seem to be working right, the balls are counting right, and the game goes into game over at the end of the last ball. I'm not sure I understand the "time advance" feature and how it's supposed to work so I'm just not sure. It does seem to be advancing and the bulbs seem to work for the most part. Just being honest - I didn't put the time into it to ensure that that thing is perfect but i didn't see anything wrong at least.
The head comes off easily as do the legs, so you can pick this up in virtually any vehicle and reassembling it is no big deal.
