We have another 1981 Atari Asteroids Deluxe upright this auction. This is the nicest one I've sold yet. It still has its flaws and is far from perfect, but it's not too bad. This one is definitely worth the effort to restore if you have the time and inclination.
The game is complete other than the back door. The internal electronic guts don't look too bad, but probably will need some work to get going. I couldn't test it because the main fuse holder is missing. I'm short a bunch of those or I would put one in and test it out. The boards don't look bad, but they are definitely as-is / untested. The monitor is complete but again, unknown.
The cabinet is in decent shape. It has gotten wet on the bottom at some point, as there is some expansion in the wood about 4 inches up all around. It fortunately didn't get wet enough to cause structural problems. It still feels nice and solid and can be moved around no problem. The marquee, bezel, control panel, and coin door all look to be in decent, acceptable condition. Just need some cleaning up and should be passable.
The artwork on the cabinet is in very good condition on both sides, in my opinion. Not flawless, but acceptable. The only major cabinet damage I can see is that there are a couple of "wounds" , one on each side, that appear to have been mended and then a little metal plate put over on each side in the front. Never seen this kind of thing or this kind of repair. Depending on your level of pickiness, this could be left as-is, or re-repaired to your specifications.
In that last picture above, I'm trying to show that the 3-D backdrop behind the mirror is still intact on this game. That's a tough part to source if you are missing it.
