This is a pretty decent Asteroids project game. I've sold one in each of the previous 4 auctions, and this one is the nicest yet. It still has issues and is far from perfect, but it's not bad and definitely a great candidate for full restoration. Especially now that those new Masteroids replacement multi-vector boards are available. Every Asteroids is worth restoring if you're going to put one of those in....that's an amazing board.
This Asteroids cabinet is in pretty good, solid condition. It did get wet at some point in the past, but not wet enough to do any major damage. Just a little cabinet expansion on the bottom 4 inches or so. But you can see from the inside pictures that the water didn't really get in the cabinet, and it is still nice and solid and structurally fine. The back door is missing unfortunately. But that's probably the easiest thing to replace on a game like this.
Electronically, the game is complete and the components look pretty good. The game board is even marked Good, but I wouldn't trust that as most boards marked good are not. But I suppose it's still a good sign. Better than being marked Bad. The monitor has one of the most burn-free tubes I've ever seen on a B/W vector monitor, so definitely worth saving. The power brick is missing the darn main fuse holder, which unfortunately is common for me. Those things are kind of fragile and break, and then you have to steal one from another game you have in the warehouse because I don't know where to source them. So then you end up with a bunch of games in the warehouse missing those parts. I suppose you could remove the power brick and just wire in a new in-line fuse and bypass the problem completely. I guess I would do that if I were going to restore this game. But because of that I can't easily test this game, so assume everything is non-working and you won't be disappointed, and might be pleasantly surprised.
The marquee is in great shape, as is the bezel (it's one of the early Asteroids bezels FWIW). The control panel seems to have light surface rust all over it, so you are probably best off just ordering a new CPO and bypassing the whole problem. Or does someone sell a new silkscreened control panel? I don't know - I'm out of the loop on what's available these days.
The coin door isn't bad, but has a busted plastic bezel on the right side. I've got scrap coin doors you can strip that part off of if you want when you come to pick this up. I didn't want to take the time as I'm in a real time crunch to get this auction uploaded. The game does have two quarter coin mechs but is missing the original coin box.
