This is a really nice, fully working Bally Kings of Steel pinball. When I say really nice, I mean that overall it's a great condition pinball if you are looking for a reliable pinball with no issues. Cosmetically, it is definitely in what they call "players' condition," which is just a nice way of saying that it is pretty worn. The playfield has some spots where the playfield artwork has been worn through to bare wood. But the artwork is still probably over 95% intact.
If you are not a pinball collector looking for mint / home-use-only pinballs, this is actually the best kind of pinball to buy. It will sell for a very reasonable price compared to that condition. And the fact that it has a lot of wear is a testimony to the fact that it is a game with great reliability and it should last for a long time with lots of play. I'm often leery when I find a game with almost no wear in mint condition. That usually in my experience means that it broke early and often and could not be kept working long enough to get any wear. Funny, but true in the vast majority of cases unless you find something that was truly home-use-only, which is quite rare.
This pinball was fully shopped out by my wife and me. She has a ton of experience shopping pins and does a great job. I'm not saying she is necessarily happy about that, but she does have the experience...lol. In doing so, she removed everything from the playfield, cleaned and waxed it thoroughly, replaced all of the bulbs with new Cointaker LED bulbs, replaced all the rubbers with new ones, and cleaned all of the plastics.
I did all the electronic / mechanical work on the game. I replaced the MPU board with a brand new Alltek board, replaced the lamp driver board with a new one so I could install all LED bulbs. I also removed and reflowed solder on the connectors of the other boards, which are working perfectly.
So everything on the game is fully working - every switch, sound effect, light bulb, coil, display segment, etc. It plays great! And it is actually a really fun game with good rules, and great sound effects. I think Bally had the absolute best sounds on their pinballs during this period.
The cabinet is in very good condition with no water damage or structural issues at all. The artwork is 99% intact and in vibrant, excellent condition. It is starting to peel / fray just a tad around the edges. But it's rare to find a Kings of Steel where the cabinet artwork hasn't already come off mostly or entirely, so this is exceptionally nice.
The coin door is in good condition, and has two working quarter coin mechs, an original coin box, and a new lock and key.
By the way, note that the displays ARE working perfectly - even though they look in the pictures and movies like they are not. In movies and pictures, they seem to be flickering and cutting in and out. That is not the case in real life. It just appears that way because the camera speed on these new cameras is so fast that it catches the digits while they are being drawn, whereas our eyes don't detect that and just see a nice smooth digit. But in reality, the game is redrawing that digit over and over and over like a thousand times a second.
The backglass on this pinball is absolutely perfect. I suspected it was a reproduction at first because it is SO perfect, but in fact it is original, just perfect condition.
You will not be disappointed with this pinball machine - it should be fully working when you get it and it should remain as such for years to come.
