Description |
Presidio County is in the Trans-Pecos region of southwest Texas, bounded on the east by Brewster County, on the north by Jeff Davis County, and on the south and west for 135 miles by the Rio Grande and Mexico.
Enjoy the beauty of a large ranch in a growing and prosperous state. The prairies, mountains, desert, and river give Presidio County an unusual beauty. In the north and west, clay and sandy loams cover the rolling plains known as the Marfa Plateau and the Highland Country, providing good ranges of grama grasses for the widely acclaimed Highland Herefords. In the central, far western, and southeastern areas of the county some of the highest mountain ranges in Texas are found.
Big Bend Ranch State Park, located in southern Presidio County, offers outdoor recreation for the truly adventurous. This remote park features rugged mountains, steep canyons, amazing views, unparalleled night skies, and solitude in a high desert setting. It is Texas’ biggest state park, so there’s a lot to explore! Hike, mountain-bike, backpack, paddle, ride horses or explore Big Bend by vehicle (two- and four-wheel-drive roads). The park sits in the darkest area of the state, and has been designated as a gold tier Dark Sky Park. It is ideal for stargazing!
