Lead | 1930 Ford Model A Deluxe Coupe |
Description |
Location: Glen Huron, Ontario

One would be hard-pressed to find a Ford Model A that has had more attention and money spent on mechanical upgrades than the example offered here. The current owner acquired this Deluxe Coupe in the “restored” condition you see here. Visually, not a lot has changed from the way the car looked when he purchased the car, to the way it presents today. However, a huge amount of money was spent on mechanical work to make this Coupe perform as good as possible.
First on the long list is a complete, correct and professional engine rebuild including a balanced crankshaft, new babbit, pistons, valves, rings, high compression cylinder head and hardened valve seats. The engine was run on a bench prior to installation in the car (see video) for purposes of proper break-in and to make sure the rebuild was 100% before it left the shop. The car has travelled less than 25 km’s since rebuild. In addition, the flywheel was machined, and new or reconditioned heavy duty rad, alternator, starter, horn, water pump and clutch (upgraded) were also installed. The carb was set up with a modified venturi to run properly with an air filter. The gas tank was recently serviced & flushed, with a fuel filter added at the shut-off valve for additional precauthionary measures. Electronic ignition was fitted to the car with the conversion done internally within the original distributor housing so that it appears stock from the outside. The charging system was converted to 6 volt positive ground alternator. The wiring was upgraded with LED tail lights and brake lights (“3rd LED brake light was installed in the back window for safety), cowl lamps were converted to turn signal lights and LED headlamps were installed behind the original Ford Model A lenses. A new battery was also installed at this time along with a Master safety shut-off switch, along with a new amp gauge and ignition switch. New correct shocks were installed at a cost of $1,000 US and a brake job was also performed with new shoes and drums. New tires were also ordered and installed. Stainless steel exhaust was fitted to the car the exhaust manifold is ceramic-coated.
Needless to say, the car runs and drives exceptionally well. Visually, the car also presents well with very good overall paint condition with slight surface texture and only one touched up paint chip visible on the hood (pictured) and some minor paint shrinkage on the trunk lid visible upon close inspection. Interior is very attractive with beautiful seat upholstery, door panels, headliner, floor cover and dash panel. This Ford has had a body-off restoration as evidenced by the detailed undercarriage with body-colour floor pans and refinished suspension components. The engine bay is also very nicely detailed and presents as new. The rumble seat area was not overlooked and has been properly restored with beautiful upholstery, side panels and floor covering. All glass panels are in excellent condition and the car is equipped with a Quail rad mascot with built-in temperature gauge, side mounted spare (drivers side) and rear-mounted trunk.
You would look far and wide to find a great example like this . . . that is arguably better than new!
