Description |
This is a fully working 1977 Sentinal STAR EXPLORER pinball machine. In case you can't tell, this is a "home model" pinball machine, meaning that it was made to be sold for use in homes, not for commercial coin operated use. In fact, it doesn't even have a coin door so it would be very difficult to use it to make money. I suppose you could have someone stand next to it and demand a quarter from everyone who comes up and expresses interest in playing it. But I don't recommend it.
Anyway, it plays like a real commercial pinball machine for the most part. It has bumpers, rollovers, a saucer, slingshots, flippers, and it scores points and makes sound effects just like a real pinball machine. The flippers are connected to the same solenoid, so when you press either flipper button, both flippers flip.
The sound effects are actually pretty decent and impressive for something made in 1977, probably designed in 1976. This is very early for a solid state pinball machine. And frankly I have to say I'm impressed with the quality of this machine. We're talking about almost 50 years old, and the thing is fully working. And not only that, but I've had 2 others earlier in life and I believe those were fully working too. In fact I've never seen one of these not working. That's a lot more than I can say for pins from the top commercial pinball makers. But then I suppose this one is slightly more simple than the others.
Anyway, this is in really good condition - the cabinet, playfield, backglass, plastics, and everything are all in excellent condition. It will probably give you many years of fun. If you watch the video, I give you some personal details about my experiences with this very game in my own youth.
