Here is a project pinball that I purchased for a couple of reasons. 1) It is in outstanding physical condition....usually these are really worn out. 2) I have had success selling these for a lot of $$$ in the past when restored. 3) It's actually a pretty fun game. By the way, this is a 1986 Williams ROAD KINGS pinball machine.
The cabinet is nice and solid and most of the cabinet's artwork is in excellent condition. There is a little wear and touch up on the right side, especially on the head. But otherwise it is unusually nice. A few flaw, and chips in the wood, but looks excellent overall.
The playfield is in remarkably nice condition. The factory mylar really protected it. I've never seen a Road Kings with this nice a playfield - for real. The ramps also look to be in good condition. The electronics and hardware under the playfield look to be complete and in good shape. The backglass is also near perfect - almost flawless.
The electronics are all there, but not working. Not sure what the problem is. The CPU board doesn't appear to have major acid damage as far as I can tell, but it is not booting. I did notice that it has High Speed labels on the ROMs, so that may be part of the problem. Of course Road Kings ROMs are available for free online if you have a burner, and if you don't, you can find them burned for you pretty cheaply. If you press me, and are patient with me, I will probably burn you a set. I have a burner and do this kind of thing from time to time.
The power supply seems to be working as the displays are lighting up and the GI is lighting, and the LED on the cpu board is lighting up. But not certain, just looks like it's working. No idea on the sound or flipper boards, but they look nice and original. One nice thing is that the two alphanumeric displays are fully working as you can see from the pictures. That's good - those are not cheap to replace.
So anyway, I have done ZERO troubleshooting. I bought this knowing I would be able to fully restore it, but as stated countless times - I just have too many projects and too little time, so I'm letting this one go.
The coin door is very nice on this and has a new lock (with custom Road Kings keychain), two quarter coin mechs, original cash box with lid.
This will end up being a really nice game when you're done restoring it....you will not be disappointed. BTW, there is a replacement CPU board available online that will make the repair a piece of cake if you want to just take the easy path. I've used a bunch of those Rottendog replacement williams CPUs and they are a dream - pretty much plug and play.
By the way, you would think after processing over 200 of these games for these auctions I would know that part of the routine is filming a short video about the game. Well, not so. I forgot to make a video about this game, and then took it all apart and packed it away. So now I need to get it out, set it up, and make a video about it. I will try to do that, but if I am unable to get it done I apologize. I promise you that I'm not trying to hide anything, I'm just getting old and forgetful.
