It is with some surprise and bewilderment that I tell you that this is the first, and only Pachinko machine I have ever owned. I don't know how I have made it this far in life, growing up in the 70s, and this is the only Pachinko I've had. I mean even regular people who aren't in the amusement industry usually end up with several of these over a lifetime. Somehow I avoided it. And I just got this one within the last year.
I remember when I was a kid, a lot of my friends had these in their homes and I did enjoy messing around with them and trying to win the big payoffs. They are quite fun. From what I understand, they are basically Japanese slot machines. I think they used to have casinos filled with these things in Japan, and I guess you must have gone to a counter and bought a bunch of balls, then tried to win more balls in the pachinko machines, which you later turned back into cash - hopefully more than you started with. That is all just conjecture on my part.
At any rate, this one looks to be in great condition and is nice and shiny and ornate, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get it to work. The guy I got it from told me it was fully working and I believe him. I just didn't bother asking him how to set it up and get it working. Here's me, the electrical and computer engineer, arrogantly assuming that a genius as smart, experienced, and gifted as I am can figure out how to work a lowly pachinko machine blindfolded in my sleep. Wrong. I can't figure it out. To quote the girl on Sega's Wild Riders...."I guess I'm not so good after all...."
So I guess I'm selling this as-is, possibly non-working. Hopefully you can figure it out. I suppose I could have turned to youtube and learned that way. But I didn't. Just buy this and take it away from me and let me forget about it and slowly build my confidence back up.
Here is a quote from a bidder who commented on this item: "I had one new in the 70's received from my mom, was a lot of fun only wish we still had them, we actually got two the same Christmas morning. As far as issues I've done some repairs on them. Electrical issues seems to be the biggest problem. Wires get old and contacts brittle or something. A lot of people have them in non working condition just for show"
Thanks bidder!
