Europe, German, probably the armour smiths of the Victorian era such as Schmidt or others. Fine Houndskull or Pig Face bascinet suit of armour in the true gothic fashion head to toe in its original 19th century composition with all homogenous parts and components. The skull is a high peaked and pointed two-piece bascinet skull riveted and hand hammered together with a traditional Houndskull visor, the aventail is chainmail and of a heavy link, gorget of multiple lames with some rivets missing or loose along with wear and looseness to leather components although constructed in a heavy gauge steel with thick rolled edges, the pauldrons and associated arms all articulating and of multiple lames with typical wear to leathers and although well articulating, the backplate and breastplate all matching in the gothic style with multiple lames to each and with a secured belt, chainmail has been affixed to the waist of the shirt matching in construction and style to the remainder of the suit, the Breastplate is gothic of a heavy steel and to the interior hand hammered and hand cut to all edges and steel ends, the tassets and Fauld of multiple lames with hinges holding the lower tassets, legs in the traditional gothic style with removable pointed gothic sabatons, legs articulate from the toes to the sabatons and function as well as original components. On stand, 80" H, elbow to elbow 30" W, stand measures 6 1/2" H
Fantastic example from the old store front of famed antique dealer "Charlie Buko" owner of the French antique store. This rare example is a fantastic representation of early style armour and would make a fine addition to any home or castle.
