Description |
This is a partly working SPACE INVADERS PART II cocktail game. It looks like the main problem is that there is some graphic glitch on the boards. The power supply must be working to get what we have on the screen. The boards are mostly working as I was able to coin up and start a game, which played with sound, but the weird graphic glitches you can see in the pictures.
The monitor is working with a good picture, but definitely needs rebuilt with new capacitors. I know this because after leaving it plugged in for a while, I heard a faint hissing sound and then saw smoke coming from around the monitor chassis. This is what happens when an old capacitor blows its top and starts to "leak". So I unplugged it right away before any damage was done.
You can still plug it in briefly and see what it's doing, but just don't leave it plugged in for long until you cap kit the monitor.
This is a color version of Space invaders, and this is the official version, as Taito is the original developer of Space Invaders and then they licensed it to Midway, who made their own board version for their games. I'm not sure how it came about that they were able to license it to Midway, and still sell their own in the same region. But if you know the story, please tell me because I am really curious.
Anyway, this thing is in very good condition as you can see from the pictures. Interesting that it has English on the player 1 control panel, and Japanese on the player 2 control panel. You can see that it's very clean inside, and the legs and body are excellent with almost no rust or flaws of any kind. The legs should be adjustable to different heights depending on your preferences.
I know in the pictures above, the monitor looks like it isn't displaying right, but that's just because the shutter speed is too fast on my phone camera. So it captures the picture while the monitor is drawing the screen and looks like half the screen is missing. Trust me, or just watch the video above, and you will see that the monitor has a perfect picture.
Tell me, what other arcade auction are you going to find where you can find this many different versions of Space Invaders!?!?! Truly remarkable.
