This is a decent condition 1981 Atari ASTEROIDS DELUXE arcade game. This game came in three cabinet - this one (the most common and the best frankly), a mini/cabaret, and a cocktail. This one is by far the best, for several reasons. First, it has by far the best artwork on the cabinet and is frankly a work of art. Also, this is one of those great classic games from the early 80s that used a two-way mirror to reflect the picture from the monitor overlayed on top of a beautiful 3-D artwork scene (in this case, asteroids floating in space) lit up with a blacklight. The effect is stunning.
The cabinet is nice and solid on this Asteroids Deluxe, but the bottom 3-6 inches did get wet at some point and there is some expansion in the wood. It isn't super noticeable unless you are looking for it. But if you look for it, you will definitely see or feel it. But from a distance, this looks just fine and no one will know. The rest of the cabinet does not appear to have any water damage, or really any other major damage to speak of. The artwork is torn and missing on part of the right side. You can either just put that side up against the wall (what I would do) or you can buy new sideart for it if you want - I believe it is available.
This game is complete (except for the back door that is). But all the electronics are there. It is non-working, but there are lots of guys out there who work on both the monitors and the boards, so if you don't know how to fix it, you can just send the components in to an expert and get them rebuilt for you.
Asteroids Deluxe is a really fun game that every collector should have in their collection. It is just like the Original Asteroids, with a few enhancements. For one thing, the asteroids now rotate as thy float around, which looks really cool. Also, you now have SHIELDS instead of hyperspace. Much more useful in my opinion. I mean, who really used hyperspace?
The marquee, bezel, control panel, and coin door are all in excellent condition. This is going to be a really nice game when you are done with it.
By the way, all the internal artwork components ARE present in this cabinet - the blue transparent monitor overlay, the 3-D boulder artwork, the 2 way mirror, etc.
I ended up painting the area where the decal was torn off white, matching the white of the rest of the cabinet. It looks a lot better this way, until you can get new artwork for that side.
