This is a fully working, nice condition, 1980 Taito STRATOVOX cocktail table video arcade game. The picture is phenomenal on the monitor, and the controls, sound, etc are all fully working.
This is the FIRST TALKING GAME ever made (from what I have been told). Who knows, there is probably some guru out there who knows about some obscure prototype or something that talked before this. But I've always been told this was the first. It doesn't say much - I guess you could call it shy. But it does speak up once in a while. Like when you have a human get captured it says "Help me". And when you free the human it says "Lucky". A few other things. You're not going to get much conversation - about like a bad first date. But still fun to play!
The game cabinet is in great shape! The legs are chrome and would clean up really nicely if you applied some steel wool to them and/or maybe some Turtle wax chrome polish. I did not have time to do this as I'm really far behind in getting this auction started. But I've cleaned enough of these things to know that this will clean up really nicely.
This does have the coin mech, coin box, and even the original locks / key for locking the top. The top is in good condition, and the instructions stickers and control panel artwork look great.
Stratovox is a really fun game - it's a similar game to Galaxian / Galaga, but with the added feature of having humans that get stolen by the invaders and need your rescue. Then you earn bonus for how many humans you rescue after each round. A well designed and programmed classic arcade game. And this is one vertical game that is NOT on the 60 in 1 multigame. A glaring omission, in my opinion. Really, Van-Van Car, but not Stratovox? uh huh.
I know that in the pictures above, the monitor looks like it isn't displaying correctly. However, that is only because the shutter speed is too fast on my phone camera. So it captures the picture while the monitor is drawing the screen and looks like half the screen is missing. Watch the video included above and you will see that the monitor has a great picture.
