NAME: Wendell
BREED: Warmblood
SEX: Gelding
HEIGHT: 16.2hh(Not measured)
AGE: 15
Wendell is a very sweet and affectionate warmblood gelding by Regardez Moi, out of a TB mare. He is unregistered but is sold with the service certificate, so I believe he can be registered.
Trained to prelim dressage, and has attended jump clinics/lessons (SJ and cross country) up to 80cm in the past.
Wendell's owner/breeder sold all her ridden horses, young stock and breeding stock (stud dispersal) over the last few months, in order to move back to the UK, and as Wendell had not been ridden for 3 years, she was heartbreakingly considering having him put to rest at the same time as the elderly broodmares, so I decided to take him, get him back under saddle, and give him a chance to find the right home.
He is a very good doer and was very overweight when he came to us. We have managed to get some weight off, have his feet done, done some groundwork, lunging, and saddled him up for his first ride in 3 years. He was a very good boy and showed no intention to misbehave in any form. He has not been known to buck, rear, bolt, bite, or kick and is a very, very sweet gelding. Wendell can be spooky, particularly as he hadn't been off his previous property in years, but he is a lovely, soft responsive ride. We have only walked and trotted him so far, but given how well he went on his first few rides after 3 years, I don't anticipate any nasties. He is very soft in the mouth, and after so long between rides, he wanted to sit behind the contact, however I'm sure that with regular riding with a dressage rider he would quickly improve.
Wendell is a lovely mover, and has a very nice smooth trot. Lunges well, has lovely manners, comes when called in the paddock, great to catch, trim, lead, and tie. For his first float ride in many years, he was nervous but loaded easily in my 3HAL, and travelled well. I'm not sure how he would go in a straight load, as I don't have one. He gets on well with others in the paddock and is quite low on the pecking order.
Wendell's ideal owner is a rider with reasonable (solid prelim/novice) dressage education, who is a kind rider and understands that Wendell has only had a few rides since having at least 3 years off. He's an easy horse to have around and very smoochy.
