My Name is Evan Gibson. I am 18 years old, and I am showing with Las Plumas FFA. I am raising a Market Hog this year. This is my sixth and last market hog. My hog's name is Pookie, he is a spotted barrow. It has been very enjoyable raising him, feeding him, and bathing him. I have put countless hours into this hog and will continue to work hard at the fair. In addition to raising animals, I work at Slag Factory, am going into the EMT program and love to spend most of my time completing welding projects. Overall, I am very excited for this opportunity and hope I can get a good buyer to purchase my last hog. Before graduating I was very involved in my FFA chapter. I was on our 23-24 welding team, went to multiple CDE competitions, and even participated in the welding project competition. Looking back at all of these events it has made me miss FFA so much, but I know that I am going to do even better things in the future.
Now that I am graduated, I have signed up for the EMT program at the Oroville Adult School. I start school on the 27th of August. After EMT school I plan to go into the Fire Acadamy. I am super excited for this new chapter in my life. I am still currently working at Slag Factory as well, at my jobsite I do multiple things such as welding, cutting, and griding. I have even made welding projects for the fair such as a bench I made out of horseshoes.
My hog weighs about 210 lbs, it can be very stressful starting up in the EMT program, having a job, and raising a hog at the same time but I really enjoy every second of it. I am feeding Pookie 2.5lbs of 16% Lindner's morning and night, along with 4oz of oats and a splash of Gatorade. I have purchased all of my hogs from Haydn Clement, a hog breeder out in Orland. I have worked with Pookie every day for about an hour. He loves playing in the water, eating strawberries, and rolling in the mud. Pookie has lots of muscle tone and a stout structure, I maintain that by feeding him all the right food and taking him out of his pen every day. Although I can get upset with my hog I always push through and keep trying. Overall, I am looking forward to selling my last market hog and can't wait to see all the awesome buyers at the fair.
