HISTORY RELATIVE to BUERGER BROTHERS SUPPLY
The Buerger Brothers Supply Company, established in 1885 in Pueblo, Colorado, by Otto, Hugo R., and Max Buerger, began as a supplier of barber equipment and supplies. Recognizing the growing demand in the Rocky Mountain region, the company relocated to Denver in 1890, enabling them to serve a broader clientele, including barbers and beauty salons. Initially operating from Larimer Street, the company expanded its offerings to include creams, tonics, perfumes, and other beauty products.
As their business flourished, the Buerger Brothers constructed a new headquarters at Champa Street in 1929. This building, designed by architect Montana Fallis, stands as one of Colorado's finest examples of Art Deco architecture. The company became a leader in the supply of barbershop and beauty salon products throughout the Rocky Mountain and western plains regions, providing everything from scissors and face creams to barbershop poles and shoeshine stands. They also manufactured their own line of beauty products, further establishing their prominence in the industry.
The Buerger Brothers Supply Company operated until 1980, leaving a significant legacy in Denver's commercial history. Their headquarters has been preserved and repurposed, now serving as the Buerger Brothers Lofts, a testament to the company’s enduring impact on Denver’s architectural and business landscape.
