My name is Kacey Hoffman. I am 18 years old, and I am showing with Las Plumas FFA. I am raising a Market Hog this year. This will be my seventh market hog. Showing pigs has taught me multiple skills such as leadership, responsibility, and time management. My pig’s name is Nubbins he is a barrow, and it has been very fun raising him, spending countless hours with him, and learning how to properly work him. I have put a lot of effort and time into this hog, I am very proud of him and myself for stepping up and taking on this project. In addition to raising animals, I am a 4.0 student, work at Stanford After School Program, and hold the title of Miss West Coast Agriculture America 2024. Overall, I am very involved in FFA, I do everything I can to have my voice heard in our chapter. Some ways I am involved include, being on our 2023-2024 officer team as the Reporter, I participated in our job interview contest and was first overall champion for the Palermo Buckle Bonanza, and last but definitely not least I have been on our chapter’s Cooperative Marketing team for two years now. I have also earned my Greenhand, Chapter, and State FFA degree as well as my FFA medallion. On top of all of that I have most recently earned three pathway completion ropes. All of these awards and degrees have helped me become the person I am today, and I definitely miss all the fun activities now that I am graduated. Now that I am graduated, I have signed up at Butte College, to earn my Bachelor of Elementary Teaching. Since I work at Stanford Elementary it has really helped me get my foot into the door of the teaching world. I am super excited to start all of my classes and can’t wait to see where this journey takes me. I am also on track to earn my FFA American degree (Which is the highest FFA degree you can receive) so I hope I can soon achieve that goal of receiving it next year. My hog is a belted Hampshire, and he weighs about 230 pounds. It can be very stressful starting up at a new college, having a job, and raising a hog at the same time, but I love doing it and learning new things. Nubbins has been one of the best hogs I've had so far, I am feeding him 2.5lbs of 16% Lindner's feed, 2 eggs, and a splash of Gatorade every morning and night. I purchased him from Haydn Clement. I work with Nubbins for a full hour every day and we try very hard to maintain and build his muscle tone and structure. He loves taking baths and playing in the water. Nubbins is a stout, heavy muscled hog, and I keep that up by feeding him ¼ of oats morning and night. Although I can get frustrated and tired with my pig, I always push through it and take a deep breath. Overall, this has been a really good experience for me, and I have grown as a showman. Nubbins and I look very forward to seeing you at the fair, thank you! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at (530)-990-8056 or email me at cdkhoffman@att.net!
