Dear Potential Buyer,
My name is Payton Burresch and I am sixteen years old. I am a third-year member of the Gridley Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter and a junior at Gridley High School. It is my privilege to invite you to the 2024 Butte County Fair and Junior Livestock Auction on Saturday, August 24, 2024! All shows and sales will take place at the McCalahan Pavilion.
This year, I will be exhibiting my market hog, Butch, at the fair. This is my sixth year raising market animals. My previous experiences have taught me that dedication must be coupled with determination and a hard work ethic in order to achieve ultimate success. I've learned the fundamentals of hog care and showmanship, along with time management and perseverance. For my 2024 project, I have utilized these skills to further my knowledge and abilities and dedicated them toward my market hog. I have worked more hours, conducted more research, and practiced showmanship more times this year to ensure improvement as I finish my market hog project. As of August 1st, Butch weighs 245 lbs. If he continues with his average rate of gain of 2 lbs, he will weigh about 280 lbs on weigh-in day!
Outside of my market hog project, I am an active member of Gridley FFA as well as having a part-time job at the local Ace Hardware. In the past year, I placed 1st overall in the North Valley Section and was a member of the livestock judging team. Aside from the teams, I was on multiple different committees such as the BBQ and Community Service Committee. Throughout this year, my favorite part was attending both the National and State FFA conventions. Attending both conventions I learned more information, and attended many workshops to develop more skills and knowledge for not only local county fair stock showing but career and leadership knowledge. When I am outside of school, sports, and other extracurricular you can find me stocking shelves, helping customers, or cashiering at the hardware store. This has provided a tremendous amount of personal growth in every way and I am very thankful for the opportunities that I have been granted!
This past year has been a fabulous highlight, especially with my market hog. I have learned so much about time management and showmanship. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to see this project to its end with a final sale, and I would be overjoyed if you would join me in this experience by registering as a buyer. This year, Butte County Fair will be holding an online and in person auction via. BidCal. If you are unable to make the physical sale and wish to purchase livestock you can register as an online buyer at bidcal.com To register for the in-person sale, you can call the fair office at (530) 846-3626, visit the Butte County Fair website, or stop by the fair office located at 199 E Hazel St, Gridley, CA.
TO give support to junior projects like Butch and myself, you can purchase (buy the meat), place an add-on (an additional dollar amount given to an exhibitor), or resale (sell the meat back into the food chain). I plan to use any profit I earn to fund my current and future SAE projects as well as college savings. This year is different if you have any questions about the auction(s), Butch, or myself, please don't hesitate to contact me personally by email bpayton414@gmail.com!
Most Sincerely,
Payton Burresch
