Shannon is a self-taught artist, and his father, a professional sign painter, was a great influence on his work. His rich use of color stems in part from his many years in Key West, Fla., where his work initially found wide national and international acceptance. Whether abstract or traditional, Shannon's luminescent landscapes reflect the French and American Impressionists' era with inspiration from such artists as Turner, Sargent, Sawyer and others.
