Housed in an iconic home built in 1966 by architect Talivaldis "Ted" Meijers (1926-2012) for his own family, the furniture, textiles, hats, accessories, and jewelry lovingly amassed by its current owner are on offer. Numerous trips around the globe garnered a spectacular assortment of Pakistani, Turkish, Mexican, Indian, Peruvian, and Thai textiles, rugs, and fabrics. Just the array of twenty Paisley shawls will impress you. An assemblage of hats spanning the years is featured: a stunning lilac felt embroidered cloche from the 1920s, quite a few feathered chapeaux from several eras, and fifteen silk children's parade hats from China are absolutely charming. A variety of furniture styles is available, but the Mid-Century items are standouts. Lift the cushions on the incredible sofa and the word "Dunbar" is repeated over and over on the revealed fabric. The rosewood folding chair from Mexico and cocktail table can be unpegged and disassembled. And surely an exquisite three-panel Figli di Amedeo Italian screen will impress you. Stored and displayed in the many built-ins and bookshelves, Mid-century accessories include a cocktail shaker collection, a Howard Miller Bitossi clock, Alexander Calder posters, and many examples of studio art pottery. If this is not enough, decorative lamps, Chinese tea caddies, a cane collection, several pieces of Belleek, Japanese obis, and a Gibson Flying V guitar are also available. To see these items en masse, situated in surroundings appropriate to and indicative of a genre and an era, is quite a treat. That the collection is housed in a domicile located in the "Athens of the Midwest"—a city ranked sixth most architecturally significant in the USA—is amazing.
