The Japanese 19th Century Mount Fuji Landscape 24kt Gold and Silver Damascene Cigarette Case is a true work of art. Handcrafted by skilled artisans, this case features representation of Mount Fuji, Japan's most iconic mountain, rendered in 24kt gold and silver on a deep black background. Also a gold & silver bird fly on the back. The intricate damascene technique, in which different metals are inlaid into each other, in this case 24kt gold & silver into a darkly oxidized steel background. The case is stamped with a character mark inside and measures 4 3/4 x 3 1/4 inches. Some slight wear to the black on the corners from use otherwise great condition.

Artist William Sommer spent most of his life in Summit County near Brandywine Falls. Sommer was an acknowledged leader of the "Cleveland School," a group of Cleveland-based artists who were active from the teens through the mid-1940s. These artists formed the core of an art community whose size and activity paralleled the growth and energy of Cleveland during that period. Sommer painted from the turn of the 20th century into the 1940s, absorbing the ideas of the Cubists and other adventurous artists of that time and integrating these concepts and techniques into his own work. RFM McInnis (Robert Francis Michael) was born in Saint John, NB in 1942. He received a diploma in Fine and Applied Arts (1961) from the Saint John Vocational School under the mentorship of Fred Ross and D. Edwin Campbell. His art interests have generally leaned towards the figurative and landscape painting, while his photography has been toward historical interests, railways and prairie grain elevators. As a young man, he was a newspaper reporter and photographer with the Telegraph Journal and Evening Times Globe, Saint John, NB (1961 - 1962), followed by an opportunity as a Royal Canadian Air Force photographer (1962- 1966). Early on, he worked as a graphic illustrator, and was the Head of the Art Department and Artist in Residence at Prince George College, Prince George, BC (1968- 1971). At age 30, the artist moved to Toronto to paint. There he began to stress the figure as the main theme of his painting. Many of his Toronto accomplishments helped position him as a serious Canadian painter. Calgary came next. It was the year before the 'Boom'' which began in earnest in that city in 1978, allowing him opportunities to be represented in many corporate collections. A move to Montréal with his wife Françoise, followed by time in Ottawa resurrected the artist's interest in eastern landscape and provided firm contacts and gallery representation in both cities. He has settled in Winnipeg after several other cross Canada trips and focuses primarily on the figure. He has painted the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada Beverley McLachlin; James A Coutts; Peter Pocklington; Maureen McTeer; Margaret Atwood; Barker Fairley, Joseph Plaskett, Dorothy Knowles, Illingworth Kerr, Joane Cardinal-Schubert, among others. Although he is a trained photographer, he rarely uses photographs as the basis for his art, even the portraits, insisting upon working totally from life. RFM has completed several commissioned train paintings for the CPR, ALSTOM, RailPower, and the Central Western Railway. In 1998, the Library and Archives Canada acquired 30 years of Journals, writings and Papers of RFM, dating back to the late 1950's. Now known in perpetuity as the RFM McInnis Fonds 1957 to 1999. At the time important sketch books were also acquired. He has exhibited internationaly and his paintings are in many important public, corporate and private collections. In 2009 a painting was chosen for inclusion into the Legacy Collection of the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, Fredericton, NB. A significant series of his work - The Demise of Seventeenth Avenue - which includes 13 panels of 60 figures from the 1980's art scene in Calgary by RFM McInnis was acquired by the Glenbow Gallery in Calgary where it was shown in 2016.

We are very pleased to offer this outstanding Mid 17thC Chip carved oak box, English/Welsh C1650. Profusely chip carved with roundels, geometric and floral designs. Rope carved borders. One long drawer to the side. Early salmon and green paint inside. Lock plate & catch have had old repairs and hinges are broken out of one side of the lid. Some small areas of wear and chipping on the base at the corners. Measuring 11 inches wide by 6 1/2 inches deep and 7 inches tall. A truly rare and wonderful object.

Beautiful WWII era Italian cased stadimeter made by Filotechnica in Milano. A stadimeter is an optical device for estimating the range to an object of known height by measuring the angle between the top and bottom of the object as observed at the device. It was designed for gunnery purposes, but its first sea tests, conducted in 1895, showed that it was equally useful for fleet sailing and for navigation. This piece is in wonderful condition in a beautiful fitted finger joint box. Various accessories in their places and a locking harness for the stadimeter. It appears one mirror was replaced at some point and the old one kept in a bag. The closed box measures 12 1/2 x 11 3/4 inches and just over 6 1/2 inches high.

An excellent Victorian pocket altimeter barometer, made by J. Hicks, of Hatton Garden, London, and dating from the last quarter of the 19th century. It would have been used by explorers, mountaineers, or travelers. It was made in England, around 1880-1890, by J. Hicks, probably the best maker of the time. Beautifully gilded brass case, and a fitted, satin and blue velvet lined, morocco leather case. The case has a damaged top missing one side and the barometer is missing its glass, which could easily be replaced by a watch repairman.

Donald NcNarry (1921-2010) Royal yacht 1682 waterline model. Incredibly detailed work by the master of miniature model ship building. At full sail in high seas. Case measures 14 1/4 x 8 1/2 inches and 10 inches tall. Some grain tape on the edges of the glass has worn off in some areas, otherwise great condition. A rare chance to aquire an original Donald McNarry model. Mr. McNarry, born in London, resided on the southern coast of England where he could glimpse the sea from his studio window. He built ship models all his life and from 1955 was a free-lance professional, creating over his lifetime approximately 350 models of historical ships covering the period from 700 BC to the late 1960s. Considered “the master” of extreme miniature shipbuilding by his peers, his works are highly sought after by museums and private collectors worldwide. His contribution to the art form has been enormous and he has been instrumental in raising the overall standards expected from small-scale ship modeling. Mr. McNarry’s works are found in major public institutions and private collections worldwide, including that of the British Royal Family, and can be viewed in the United States at the Peabody Essex Museum, Smithsonian Institution, Mystic Seaport Museum, The Mariners’ Museum and the U.S. Naval Academy Museum in Annapolis, MD.

La Tene culture 300-100 BC Celtic swords with verification papers and previous bill of sales from Sands of time antiquities Texas. Included in this lot are actually two swords. One fused in its original scabbard and another sword only. Also included a smaller curved sword blade of unknown origin. Recently acquired from a local collectors estate. original bill of sale and certificate of authenticity was found for the sword in scabbard but we could not locate any for the additional swords. The cost at time of purchase for the one was 5000 US. Exceptional examples of the single handed broadsword with leaf shaped iron blade cast with full tang and minimal guard. A design attributed to the Celts. Overall length 41 inches including the tang. Possibly the best example outside a museum. Reference WS399 Swiss private collection acquired in Switzerland early 20th Century then by decent to present owner. See: De Navarro JM "The finds from the site of La Tene Scabbards and swords found in them.

Surveying drafting lot to include a cased drafting set a three legged rolling map reader magnifier and a surveying tool by A.B. Lyth Stockholm. Drafting set case has some damage.

Rare antique brass bankers sealing wax lantern. Used to heat the wax for sealing documents. This heavy brass lamp has a round base the corrects the lamp to upright in case it is knocked. Fire was a real hazard in the days of early banking and this type of lantern would not spill or fall over. Stands just under 4 inches tall.

Scarce Seven Sutherland sisters hair tonic bottle from NY. Incredible story behind the genius advertising campaign to use seven sisters with incredibly long hair to sell their tonic. Monumental Royal Copenhagen "The Kiss". Large Figural Porcelain Sculpture, design introduced in 1953 depicting a pair of nude lovers, the woman lets the waves push her up towards the man tied to the rock, so that they can embrace 47cm high, printed maker's mark, 'KFX' painter's mark and numbered '1132'. Designed by Theodor Lundberg.

Fantastic rare early primitive mouse trap found in Liverpool Nova Scotia. This five station trap had heavy wooden blocks tied up with a string that ran down into the trap. Then the string was covered in fish oil or lard and the mice would chew the string until the block was released. This is a museum worthy primitive form of early ingenuity. Measuring 26 inches across and 15 inches high. A very sculptural form.

Wonderful dresser top Nova Scotia Folk art made display case. Wooden plaque on top reads "Nellie". Lift top with red velvet interior and display windows all around. Beautiful cutouts and curved sides. Measures 10 x 8 1/4 inches and approx. 5 inches tall. Very faint old pencil writing on the base which appears to be its history.

Beautiful Native made Mi`kmaq lidded splint basket with colourful interior and decorated with splint curls. Basket measures 9 inches across and 4 1/2 inches tall. Overall good condition with only a few splint curls with damage (see photos).

Outstanding Mi`Kmaq Gods eye gathering basket with bent wood handle. A superb work of art in excellent condition. One of the nicest we have had. Measures just over 14 inches across.

Wonderful primitive folk carved Goose decoy. Sid Howard was one of Nova Scotia's most popular folk artists, and his work has been widely collected. He began carving in 1945 but most of his early works were destroyed in the fire in late 1960`s. Decoy measures aprox. 23 inches long. Signed and dated 1991 on the base. Sid carved fish, pigs, dogs and various birds. He eventually undertook the carving of life-size figures, including political figures and an RCMP officer. Sid Howard has been featured on the television series, "On the Road Again" and was also interviewed in the National Film Board documentary, "Folk Art Found Me". His work also appeared in the Canadian Folk Art Calendar for 1996. Extremely rare antique hollow body copper working decoy. Outstanding form with gorgeous original patina. A true folk art masterpiece made out of necessity . Obviously a highly skilled metal worker made his decoy of copper rather then wood. Picked in Sand point Idaho over 50 years ago. No doubt modeled after a Mason decoy. Attached weight and tow ring. Dovetailed construction soldered water tight. As rare a find as they come. Comes with later made Cherry wood stand.

Snider-Enfield .577 cal Infantry Rifle trapdoor 1862 Dominion of Canada musket. DC marked stock with FB stamped over top. Barrel is 38 1/2 inches long. Original brass butt plate. Missing its ramrod. Both slings present. Hammer is free moving but doesn't lock back. Missing top screw in action at stock. Overall great shape. No license required to buy as this is classified as antique status. A great piece to hang above a fireplace. No shipping restrictions.

American artist Fiske Boyd woodcut of a church & tombstones. Dated 11/9/50 and titled Homelsdorf church. Woodcut #303-16. Fisk Boyd (1895-1975 was a painter, graphic artist, block printer and teacher who lived in Washingtonville with his wife for many years. He was a member of the Woodstock artist colony and his works have been displayed in prominent museums and galleries throughout the country. Very good condition and measuring sight 10 1/2 x 13 1/4 inches and with matte 14 x 18 inches.
