"Conestoga Indians" ca. June 15, 1764 date; framed document and envelope signed by Governor John Penn and written to Jacob Wislar (Jacob Wissler) on screen laid paper to appoint him as Superintendent and to care for the "Indians" that had settled on unsold lands of "Conestoga Manor" in Manor Twp.; The order is to vacate all persons who have/shall presume to settle or commit any waste upon the part of the manor commonly called "Indiantown". The order (post-murder event), is on behalf of the Governor to remove other persons than the surviving members of the Conestoga Tribe of Susquehanna Nation. The noted history was after a 1763 uprising by Chief Pontiac and the Ottawa Nation in northwestern PA and through the Great Lakes region that a group of vigilantes attacked the peaceful tribe that was settled in Conestoga Twp. A group of 10 members of the tribe were placed into Lancaster Prison (or workhouse) for their safety and were murdered there on Dec. 14, 1763; professionally framed with matting; 18"x 14 3/4"; [Note: Jacob Wissler (1738-1797) was born in Lancaster Co, a miller by trade and worked for Sam Herr Mill. century; .32 caliber percussion fired rifle with a 40” octagon barrel. The rifled bore is fair with rust and corrosion. The barrel is marked “J. Fordney /Lancaster PA. The lock plate is marked “JAs Golcher”. Jacob Forney was the son of Melchior Fordney and was a Lancaster, PA gunmaker who was active from about 1831-1860. Joseph Golcher was a lock maker located in Philadelphia PA in the mid-1800’s. The barrel measures 0.860” Dia. At the muzzle and 0.945” across the flats at the breech end. The overall length is 55-1/2”. The metal finish on the barrel is a brownish gray patina with scattered light dings and scratches. The front sight is a brass blade dovetailed into the barrel; the rear sight is steel v-notch dovetailed into the barrel. The lightly engraved lock plate and hammer are a cleaned gray patina with some remnant older cleaned surface rust. Double set triggers. German silver butt plate, with an engraved German silver patch box and trigger guard. German silver side plate, wedge plates and nose cap. A note with the rifle states that it is the only known Fordney rifle with German silver fittings/adornments. The striped full-length hardwood stock is in very good condition showing some scattered light dings and scratches. No cracks or major damage. The action works fine. Includes the wood ramrod.

1700-early 1800s; .50 caliber flintlock rifle with a 41” octagon barrel. The rifled bore is fair with rust and corrosion. The barrel markings are hard to make out, but it looks like H. DeHuff. The lock plate is not marked. Henry DeHuff was a Lancaster, PA gunmaker who was active from the late 1700’s into the early 1800’s. He was involved with the manufacture of Model 1797 Contract Muskets for the State of PA as well as Model 1807 Contract Muskets for the US Govt. The barrel measures 0.871” across the flats at the muzzle and 0.948” at the breech end. The overall length is 56-1/2”. The metal finish on the barrel is a rusty brown patina with edge wear and scratches. There are some patches that have been partially cleaned. The front sight is a brass blade dovetailed into the barrel; the rear sight is steel v-notch dovetailed into the barrel. The lock plate, hammer and frizzen are a brown patina with light surface rust. Single trigger. Brass butt plate, patch box, trigger guard, side plate and nose cap. The striped full-length hardwood stock is in very good condition showing some scattered dings and scratches, no cracks or major damage. The action works fine. Includes the wood ramrod and a copy of the book "Thoughts on the Kentucky Rifle in it's Golden Age"

Oct 19, 1798 dated; commission paper under order of Governor Thomas Mifflin, ink infilled by Deputy Secretary James Trimble, the order for John Spalding to be captain of the "Troop of Ligh Horse attached to Luzerne Co.", the action was part of the civil unrest known as "Fries Rebellion of 1798", contains Governor and Deputy Secretary signatures as well as seal of PA, framed in a mahogany frame, 16"x 13"; [Note: John Spalding was son of General Simon Spalding. He was a military veteran of the Revolutionary War and served under his father during that war]; Condition: very good

1820-1864; .54 caliber percussion fired rifle with a 41” heavy octagon barrel. The rifled bore is fair with rust and corrosion. The barrel is un-marked, but has decorative designs peened onto the top flat of the barrel. The lock plate is marked “Dreppert”. John Dreppert (Sometimes spelled Drepperd) was a Lancaster, PA gunmaker who was active from about 1820-1864. The barrel measures 1.181” across the flats at the muzzle and 1.171” at the breech end. The overall length is 57”. The metal finish on the barrel is a cleaned brownish gray patina with dark patches of older surface rust withy scattered light dings and scratches. The front sight is a brass blade dovetailed into the barrel; the rear sight is steel v-notch dovetailed into the barrel. The lightly engraved lock plate and hammer are a brown patina with light surface rust. Double set triggers. Brass butt plate with an engraved brass patch box that has decorative borders, brass trigger guard, brass nose cap and an engraved brass side plate. The striped full-length hardwood stock has some decorative carving and is in very good condition showing some scattered dings and scratches with some cracks along the barrel channel, no major damage. The action works fine (including the double set trigger function). Includes the wood ramrod.

century; .54 caliber percussion fired musket with a 43” part round/part octagon barrel. The smooth bore is fair with rust and corrosion. The barrel is marked “J. Fordney/Lancaster PA. The lock plate is marked “J. Golcher/Warranted”. Jacob Forney was the son of Melchior Fordney and was a Lancaster, PA gunmaker who was active from about 1831-1860. Joseph Golcher was a lock maker located in Philadelphia PA in the mid-1800’s. The barrel measures 0.800” Dia. At the muzzle and 1.017” across the flats at the breech end. The overall length is 57-1/2”. The metal finish on the barrel is a dark brown patina with pitting around the nipple. The front sight is a brass blade dovetailed into the barrel; the rear sight is steel v-notch dovetailed into the barrel. The lightly engraved lock plate and hammer are a brown patina with light surface rust. Single trigger. Brass butt plate, trigger guard, side plate and nose cap. The striped full-length hardwood stock is in good condition showing some scattered dings and scratches. There is a stress crack in the forearm on the left side and a repair on the right side of the upper tang. The action works fine. Includes the wood ramrod.

The hammer is not marked while the barrels are marked “Allen & Thurber Worchester”. Made in Worcester MA between 1847 and 1865. The metal finish on the barrel group is a rusty brown patina with scattered light pitting. The nipple shield (attached with screws) is lightly engraved and is a grayish brown patina. The lightly engraved iron frame is a brown patina with light surface rust. The plain walnut grips are in good condition with some light chips around the grip screw. The trigger guard is missing. The action does not work properly, the barrel group indexes only intermittently on some barrels. The hammer works OK.
