Late 19th century leather bound photo album descended in the Eastham family, with the signature "Emma C. Eastham, 1882" on the title page. Contains forty-six (46) photographs / CDV's, and two photos of Civil War veterans (one in uniform) and a tintype of a young soldier. Most photographs have handwritten names identifying them. The Eastham Family of Rappahannock County, Virginia, and later the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, were among the earliest settlers in Virginia. By 1660 Edward Eastham (Essom) of Kent, England, had settled and started his family in Rappahannock County. Edward's great-great-great-grandson, Capt. John L. Eastham & wife Sarah Woodside Eastham had six sons who served in the Confederate Army of Virginia: William Woodside Eastham (12th Virginia Cavalry), John Jay Eastham ( 49th VA Infantry), Capt. Granville Philip Eastham (12th VA Cavalry), Lt. Chapman Byrd Eastham (10th VA Infantry), Philip A. Eastham (7th VA Cavalry), and George Robert Eastham (12th VA Cavalry). Written by Zea's Woodstock,VA, attorney Moses Walton. Plus a December 13,1862 receipt for 20 bags of salt, written by a Virginia Central Railroad agent to D.W. Prescott in Staunton, VA. A transcript of the letter is included, and genealogy information for both Edward Zea and Moses Walton.

Two Confederate States of America bonds issued in Harrisonburg, Virginia, to Joseph Keller, CSA veteran. Keller joined Company B (Toms Brook Guard), 33rd Regiment Infantry in 1862. His service record is included. The bonds include: $300 issued March 7, 1864; and $100 issued June 28, 1864. A modern photograph of an earlier photo identified as Joseph Keller, wearing his uniform and a Confederate Virginia reunion ribbon & medal, found with the bonds is included. Two separate sheets from the same Civil War era notebook of Joseph Erasmus Sine, Columbia Furnace, Virginia. One dated May 24, 1864, with a receipt written for J. E. Sine by Lt. Bathis (?) "provomartial" with sums written on the reverse. A second sheet is written on both sides with day by day accounts of the Union 1st, 2nd, & 3rd West Virginia cavalry, during late June to mid July. The troops moved to Wheeling Va, and later to Grafton. Mr. Sine was the only soldier to enlist with the Union in his community, but according to accounts, was well respected. He enlisted at Grafton, West Virginia, in Feb 1864, at the age of 21.

Three pieces of Civil War era ephemera, in particular a letter dated June 17, 1861, written by Confederate soldier Israel P. Rinker of Shenandoah County, Virginia, describing his posting in Winchester at an "African Church East of Depot" under the command of Col. Angus W. McDonald of the 7th Virginia Cavalry. Rinker rose to Captain during the war, and was a farmer near Mount Jackson. In the same letter he sent word to his wife to mow hay. Also included is a folded paper envelope addressed to Robert Rinker of Ediburg, Virginia, "Care of Capt Howe 2nd Draggoons U.S. Army City of Mexico." And lastly a letter written by George Funkhouser January 23, 1861, with a reference to the idea of secession being discussed in the County, with "1 out of Every 10" being in favor.

Two early 20th century photographs showing the same or similar chair, or rocker, featuring painted six-point stars and stripes and what looks like a Spitler type woven oak splint bottom. The postcard showing a young boy with hat is Percy K (Kenneth) Ludwig, who was born in Swover Creek, Shenandoah County, Virginia in 1906. The carte de visite CDV photo is earlier, likely 1902, and is of the Helsley family. Seated in front left to right: Clara Helsley, her father John Henry Helsley, his wife Minnie Belle Viola Jordan Helsley, and infant Robert (born 1902 in West Virginia). The Helsley's had 2 more children while living in West Virginia. The men in back are Raz (Erasmud) Jordan & Samuel Ross, both of Shenandoah County. It is possible that both photos were taken, a few years apart, in Shenandoah County, Virginia.

Luther Ashby Ludwig lived in both Cabin Hill & Columbia Furnace, Virginia, and is also pictured in Lot #379, with his family.

Plus an envelope with a Moores Store Jan 24 ? cancellation mark, addressed to "L. A. Ludwig, Cabin Hill, Shenandoah Co Va," and on the back a drawing with 'Alice.' The back also has an Edenburg Virginia Jan 25 1887 cancellation mark.
