A cased bronze plaque from the international exhibition 'The Children's World' held in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 1903 and 1904. The exterior of the case reads: "St. Petersburg Gewidmet Vom Lande Niederosterreich." The engraving is continued in the plaque: "Zur Erinnerung an Die Ausstellung DIE KINDERWELT St. Petersburg 1903 vom Lande Niederoesterreich." Translated roughly as "Dedicated (or gifted) by the State of Lower Austria in remembrance of the exhibition 'The Children's World' St. Petersburg 1903." The plaque was sculpted by Franz Klug (Austrian, active 19th - early 20th century). Klug also did artwork for the interior of Max Hegele's St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery Church in Vienna. The body features four scenes of children playing; two of the scenes are framed within ruyi-shaped frames, and two of the scenes are framed within trapezoidal frames. All scenes are set against a ground of lotus and vine tracery bordered by a band of Greek key meander around the rim. The lid features similar tracery and meander with a flower on the finial. There is a 4-character mark on the bottom. The jar comes with a certificate of antiquity from the Hong Kong Art Craft Merchants Association. A group of two Chinese famille rose snuff bottles dating from the 19th century. The first bottle has molded decoration of eight figures riding various animals on a ruyi cloud ground. The bottle has a turquoise neck and foot, and it has a 4-character mark on the bottom. It has a jade lid with a spoon. The second bottle is double-bodied and comes with a wooden stand. It is decorated with red bats, Shou medallions, and Buddhist crosses around a blue band. It has turquoise peking glass lids with spoons. Dimensions are: the larger bottle with the figures measures 3 5/8 inches tall X 2 1/8 inches wide, 9.2 cm X 5.4 cm. All measurements are approximate. Condition: The bottle with the figures has a crack to the lid, a chip to the rim, and two cracks to the rim, alongside widespread use wear. The double bottle has abrasions and wear to the paint.

In 1957, he was admitted to the Department of Philosophy at Princeton University. Because of his interest in history, in 1979 he received a doctorate in art history from Princeton University focusing on the Chinese artist Gong Xian. After graduation, he was successively employed as a professor of art history at Dartmouth, Oberlin, and other colleges. He later settled in San Francisco, California, where he presided over the Chinese Cultural Center, held regular cultural exhibitions, and devoted himself to introducing Chinese culture and artists to Western audiences. During the 1980s, he traveled between San Francisco and Shanghai and became an important bridge for cultural and artistic exchanges. Professor William Wu and the famous movie star Jet Li are distant relatives, and he was a great help in the early years of Jet Li's career development. Mr. Wu maintained contact with Jet Li throughout his life.
