This lot features three original ink and chalk / charcoal on paper artist's studies / sketches of female nudes drawn in multiple positions by Joseph Delaney (American, 1904 - 1991). Delaney was a Knoxville, Tennessee native who became a part of the New York art scene at the time of the Harlem Renaissance. The condition on these pieces is good - poor, with a considerable amount of torn and tattered edges. One should appreciate the condition as part of these pieces', and the overall collection's, journey. The collection that these pieces were discovered within was stored at Delaney's residence in less than ideal conditions and was only discovered by the heirs of the Delaney Estate after years of neglect. Thankfully, we have been able to bring this hitherto unknown collection to the public. We have had this collection, and these pieces specifically, inspected by William H. Wright M.F.A, who has provided a letter that states his belief in the authenticity of this piece and the others in this collection. William Wright M.F.A. was the expert hired by the Delaney Estate in the early 1990's to verify and appraise the art within the Delaney Estate after Joseph's passing. Buyer will receive a signed copy of this letter from William H. Wright M.F.A. Not signed. Pieces measure approx. 24" x 18". See Photos for Details.
