R Serial # 115746. 12 Ga single shot break-open shotgun with a 30” barrel. The bore is fair, mostly clean with some light roughness/pitting at the chamber end. The barrel is choked Full. Howard Arms was a tradename used by Fred Biffar & Co., a prominent sporting goods retailer in Chicago during the 1920’s. Fred Biffar had previously worked for the Wilkes-Barre Gun Co., H.D. Folsom, Andrew Fryberg and Meriden as well as Sears, Roebuck & Co. This gun was most likely made by Fryberg. The blued metal finish on the barrel is in fair condition showing wear, thinning, scratches and a covering of light to moderate surface rust. The frame is a grayish patina with a covering of moderate surface rust. The plain walnut forearm is in fair to good condition showing dings, scratches and finish wear. The matching butt stock is in fair condition, it is cracked through the wrist and is taped on with electrical tap. Plastic butt plate. The action works OK. C&R.
