Canada Scarce Tobacco Revenue Proof and stamp collection. In terms of scarcity, this lot makes the top of the list as a highlight of this current auction. The overall quality is simply superb with some very scarce items. "Black Proofs" - composed of two parts, taped together for 10 cigars (1885 issue RG 361L) and for 50 cigars (1883 issue for RG 233L) both VF. In addition, there are coloured proofs, along with actual tobacco stamps in superb condition. There is a quality group of smaller tobacco strips (1883 issues), some black RP 440, RP 441, RP 448, some blue RP 608, RP 618, 1931 series B RP 837, and 1935 series C RP 844 and RP 845 - some used and some unused. Other very interesting parts of the collection is the "Snuff" RS 44L//64, the 1 pound tobacco RP 440 1883, RP 700 and 706, The "Canada Twist Only", issued for different weight limits and jurisdictions such as Ottawa, Quebec etc. Interesting 1/5th, 1/4th, and 1/2 pound strips - RP 543, P552, RP 726, fine cut chewing tobacco RP 15L, rf 21, rf21n, rf23, a major grouping of cigars including RG 106, 131n, 145, 147, 147n, 283l, 298, 357, 414, 414n, 416, 416n, 418, 428, 432, 444, 446, 446n, another series of "snuff" including RS 44l, 48l, 50l, 59, 60, 61, 62, and 64, other spectacular groupings include RP 688, 688n, 707, 707n, and 725, RF 15L, 17L, 21, 21N, and 23. There are some superb duplicates such as RP 837, 844, 845, 440, 441,and 442. A major highlight of this collection are the largest tobacco stamps and proofs, 1860's-1940's (mostly 1800's, very attractive group with scarcer types, seldom offered in larger groups, including cigars, tobacco strips, fine cut chewing, etc. Some faults, but the collection is mostly VF and better.
