Description
REICHELDORFER ONLINE AUCTION The Queen Anne style home located 131 East Union was built in 1893 by James Reichelderfer (1844-1928), a local grain miller who later became 3rd vice president of the Sears and Nichols Canning Company and his second wife, Julia Work Reichelderfer (1855-1907), Since its completion, the home has remained in the family, first serving as the childhood home of James and Julia’s two children, Evan and Ruth. After graduating college, James and Julia’s oldest child, Evan changed the spelling of his surname to Reicheldorfer, married Lone Hudson in Fremont, Ohio and then returned to Circleville where he joined his father on the Board of Directors of the Sears & Nichols Canning Coompany. Lone later worked for 23 years at the Columbus and Southern Ohio Electric Company on East Main Street. Evan and Lone had one child, James Reicheldorfer (1917-2000), who lived at 131 East Union his entire life. In 1941, James married his Circleville High School sweetheart, Doris Moffitt, and the raised both of their daughters, Lynn and Susan in this home. Following his graduation from the Ohio State University, James worked as a cost accountant with the Borden Ice Cream Company for over 30 years while Doris worked as a bookkeeper for the Circleville Oil Company on North Court Street.
