Very large and heavy Chinese porcelain statue of Bodhidharma, the founder of Shaolin Kung Fu. Bodhidharma depicted here standing atop a book which is covered in crashing waves of the Yangtze River. A classical depiction, Bodhidharma features a large nose, profusely-bearded with a wide eyed scowl revealing his ill temper. Draped in long flowing robes of deep varied blue. Bodhidharma is central figure to Buddhism, known for a deep focus on meditation and creation of the Shaolin Monastery - famous for the creation of the Shaolin Kung Fu. Mark to the base of the books on rear of statue. Size 28" H x 16" W x 18" L

Iberian Peninsula, Spanish Colonial 18th century cup hilt sword / rapier. Popularized during maritime use by Spain a so-called "Caribbean Cup Hilt" because some were partially made in the colonies. This example with a horn handle lightly turned with horizontal craving to the grip. Short length with a wide set of quillion and a typical round bowl with D shaped guard. Probably such an example where the blade was imported from Spain and assembled with a guard made in the colonies. Used throughout the Caribbean, Philippines, and Mexico. Large British RNR (Royal Navy Reserve) midshipman’s dagger with scabbard and hefty blade, measures 1” W at the ricasso. Obverse is acid etched marked with the “Star of Damascus” quality mark and is stamped Proved. Acid etched marked on reverse of the ricasso Batson /London. Exquisitely etched scrolled leaf motif, lion and unicorn flanked coat of arms, and crown over anchor with overlaid letters RNR. Sewn seam leather scabbard with correct brass mounts, but with the release latch removed. Oversized grip has intact twisted retaining wire around the ray skin covered wood grip. The gilt lion head pommel, crossguard and ferrule retain much of the original gilding. The scabbard is also of larger proportion than most examples. Size 23" L, blade 17 1/2" L

Gold (or golden) Proof Mark within the etched Damascus Star on the obverse ricasso. Gothic six-branch knuckle bow, sharkskin wrapped wood grip with brass retaining wires intact. United States Navy Model 1852 Officer's sword, circa Vietnam War, with gilt brass hilt and scabbard fittings. The sword features a very clean high condition straight double-edged etched blade. Wire wrapped faux-ray skin grip. The gilt brass guard has openwork USN and a dolphin as the quillon. Pommel cap with U.S. Eagle and stars. The upper and middle suspension bands are decorated with roped knot motif. A dolphin decorates the edges of the drag. Overall: 34 1/4" L, blade: 27 1/2" L . A high quality German-made sword marked "STAINLESS" and with etched Star of Damascus proof mark, and with Purveyor's Name: Wolf-Brown over logo, over GERMANY.

Fine brass mounted and well spiraled snuff horn with an agate inset lid. The horn in a well patinated color and appearance. Snuff horns were used to carry and dispense snuff, a powdered tobacco product typically taken by inhaling through the nostrils. Similar to powder horns for gunpowder, snuff horns were popular during the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Size 9" W x 6 3/4" H

Italian infantry officer of The Royal Army Pouch for a Bandolier circa 1934. Used during the fascist period and worn as a bandolier during pageantry and ceremony. The Savoy shield on the heart and the crown of Italy over a wing spread eagle with ruby color eye. Original lion head side plates. Struck with a makers mark to the center of the breastplates lower Fauld above a large brass rivet. All original oversized brass rivets approximately 30 in total. Remnants of the original leather liner and edges. Reverse coated with a thin blue paint for preservation. Size 14" H x 13 1/2" W

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Sumatra, Aech probably 19th century Peurise Teumaga or brass shield specific to the island and region. The Peurise Teumaga was used by the Acehnese warriors battling Dutch colonialist in the 19th century. The shield is round with a border of cascading demi circles. The face has seven raised central lopes that mimic the sun and is profusely decorated in raised patterns.

The Aceh War 1873-1904 was an armed conflict between Dutch colonist and the Sultanate of Aceh. The war was a component of a series of conflicts that consolidated control over the Modern day Indonesia. Size 9 7/8" H x 1 3/4" W

Close to half the size of a manta similar to an Acoma piece woven 800 years later with brocaded or embroidered end bands in vegetal colors, just like the Puebloans wove using indigo and cochineal in the middle of the 19th century. Wonderful little bookshelf model of the Mayflower famous for its transport of the first Pilgrams from England to the New Colonies. The ship features three large masts and is mounted on a green marble base with a brass plaque reading (The Ship Mayflower, Souvenir, S/S Belgenland World Cruise, 1929-1930). This model as a souvenir for the world cruise undertaken by the SS Belgenland. Navy blue and gold detailed Balinese ceremonial umbrella, shortened for use as a parasol with the attachment available to make it tall and stand alone. In the Balinese dialect these umbrellas are known as 'tedung', which literally means 'to guard'. The umbrellas are used in ceremonial parades and positioned around the compounds in alignment to various shrines that are orientated towards the sacred mountain of Gunung Agung. Small pierced eyes, with chiseled jaw lines, protruding noses and small slit mouth. The Bulul is touched by hands dipped in blood of a chicken or pig in a ritual called tunod during the rice planting season. Over time the blood imparts a dark color to the figures, overlaid with a patina of grease from food offerings. Size of largest 16 7/8" H x 3" W

Finely hand carved in great detail, this Philippines dragon mask is a wonderful depiction of the mythical sea creature. This mask includes details incised and pierced work, as well as high relief carving including the sharp pointed teeth and horns. It is usually depicted with a characteristic looped tail and a single horn on the nose. It was generally believed to be a sea serpent, but are also variously believed to inhabit either the sky or the underworld. Size 21 3/8" L

Early 20th century exquisite step ladder with affixed copper ball shaped sun and incised designs above, similar to branches with leaves. The ladder has three cylindrical steps, and a face shaped 'shelf' step at the top. Arched above the face the ladder continues with a metal sun-like applied metal ball, and branch or leaf designs carved in high relief. As one climbs the ladder the face is looking down at you giving a comforting and secure feeling. The ladder was cut in modern time with a power saw, typically it would measure well over 8 feet and higher. Africa, Nigeria, Kaduna State, Village of Nok, Nok or Katsina or Sokoto Culture terracotta torso of a figure in crouching position with circular decoration, exposed breasts, and linear features or designs throughout. Size 7 3/4" H x 4" W

Nok figures and the discovery of the culture circa 1928 has indicated the remains of the Nok civilization once span a large area of Nigeria, Niger, and portions of Eastern Benin. The figures are marked by a style of elongated faces with horizontal triangular eyes and often depict warriors or important figures. The terracotta when in great condition exhibits a smooth slip and when worn the shell or white specks become visible in the layers revealed with wear and handling.

Finely detailed copper charger after Francois Briot depicting Sophrosyne in the center. Seated on a chest with a lamp in her right hand and a jug in her left. The four reserves on the boss of the dish each contain a classical god, together with mythological figures which represent the four elements: air, water, earth and fire. The reserves around the rim show Minerva presiding over the seven liberal arts: astronomy, geometry, arithmetic, music, rhetoric, dialectic and grammar, each with relevant attribute. A small bas relief profile of Briot is on the center of the reverse. Size 17 1/2" W

Highly pierced pair of open work ewers, featuring figural handles of angelic cherubs, piercing has remnants of cloth backing to mythological piercing. 13 1/4" H (approx.)

Original Orrefors Sweden sticker to the reverse near the base. Stopper still intact with seal to ensure freshness.
