A polychromed three tier Masonic frame with symbols of the Seeing Eye, Chalice, cross SCJ appears to associate with the name of SCJ Demolay chapters and may have to do with helping God to finish his work, very good condition, early 20th C. 20.5" x 25", inside rebate 15.25" x 19.5".

George Beckstead, Canadian. A carved pine wall mounted key rack in the form of a flower with a picture of George Beckstead in the centre with his name applied above, (see Miller & Miller Lot 590, Feb 8, 2020), very good except one petal is chipped. Very little is known about George Beckstead except that he was a conductor for the CNR, lived near Morrisburg, Ontario on the St. Lawrence and carved in the 1940s - 1950s after he retired. Only about a dozen of his carvings are known to exist. 12"Diam.

George Beckstead, Canadian, c1950. A very unusual folk art tower. Starting at the top with furniture knob attached to an iron rod which acts as the spine for the entire piece. Below the peaked roof the four sides of the tower are decorated with smiling relief carvings. The tower rests on a footed base. And to add another touch of humour the iron rod that runs the length of the piece is bent and shaped under the base in the form of a field mouse. It is an ingenious work of folk art. (See Miller & Miller Lot 590, Feb 8, 2020). Great surface on the piece. Some age cracks and three decorative rings might be missing from roof line. Not signed. 7"W x 25"H x 7"D.

One piece walking stick, the handle carved in the shape of a bearded man with deep set eyes looking upwards and a prominent nose, Eyes and mouth retain some original paint, the rest of the shaft with many knots retains its bark, deep patina on knob, varnished, age check in knob, American, 19th C, brass ferrule. 35.5" L, Handle 4"W. The longer one piece walking stick handle is carved in the form of an unusually elongated man's head, carved eyes, nose and ears. He appears to be wearing a waist coat. A natural aged finish, damage to nose, waist coat and tip. 40"L. Head 7.5"H. 1"Diam. The shorter single piece walking stick is either naturally formed or subtly carved. A country version of a Chippendale grandfather clock, the pine case paint decorated with mahogany graining, and the tablet door grained to simulate a contrasting tiger maple, the face and Roman numerals are hand painted, appears to have original brass weight driven works with original pendulum and weights, an unusual feature is the the glass door front slides vertically to access the face, using a lift latch (see photos), see plates 420 & 421 in Shackeleton "The Furniture of Old Ontario" for very similar grandfather clock. One similar clock was made by R.W. Woodruff, Burford, C.W., c1830-50. Very good condition but not wound and tested , signed on back of clock case illegibly, one word might be Burford, 185?. 17"W x 86"H x 10.5"D.

The basic table is an early 20th C Louis XVI style side table or occasional table in an original antique white painted surface, but what distinguishes it from the norm is the folk art carved forest scene of a moose and a nude woman seated on a rock under a tree done in high relief under a glass top, probably one of a kind, nice wear to deck adding to the overall charm of the table, very good condition. found in Quebec, strong attribution to the Montreal cabinet maker Louis Pistono 1888-1976, who did very elaborate tables, dining room sets, etc., 24" W x 15"H x 20.5"D.

Top quality Ontario slant front desk with a cherry dovetailed case. The slant front desk has four dovetailed book matched mahogany veneer drawers below the lid, and is raised on a simple base. The elaborate interior has long fretwork veneered drawers over a cubby hole above two mahogany faced drawers over solid tiger maple drawers. At the centre are two letter boxes flanking a mahogany door, behind which are four dovetailed tiger maple drawers in front of a hidden compartment of 4 drawers with original leather pulls. The back of one drawer is painted "1862", overall very good condition with a slight warp to slant front lid, and a minor veneer chip on base, drawers slide well, one glass knob missing, Ontario, c1862. 42"W x 46"H x 21"D.

A home made antique pine one-of-a-kind slant front desk, scalloped back board with applied crossed clubs to frieze above slant front with a lower single panelled door, a currently locked side cabinet, both the upper and lower sections have shelves and pigeon holes, very good condition in an original stained varnish finish, c1890. Only 24"W x 62"H x 15"D.

J.R. Twiss wooden works grandfather clock, Montreal, Lower Canada (Quebec), c1820s, the pine case was originally grain painted, the 30 hour weight driven clock with one original weight and one older weight, not wound and tested, structurally very good condition, see the article from the National Watch & Clock Collectors by Allan Symons for more about Twiss clocks, 17.5"W x 82"H x 9.5"D.
