CRICHEL HOUSE CACHE RAINDROP RACE WAGER One rainy day in 1890, An aristocrat and a friend were in a Dorset Stately home. Sitting near a window they made bet. The bet was to see which of two raindrops would reach the bottom first. They each wagered 5 pounds.
To pay his debt, the loser went to the bank and withdrew 4,800 of these farthings. These coins carried the lowest value at the time, a mere 1/4 of a penny. Over a century later, these unused coins were found still wrapped in tissue paper from the bank. As a result of this wager, these 1890 Queen Victoria farthings are among the finest to ever enter the market. #B190690
