Up for auction is a (20 coin roll marked “Peace Reserve” and having two covered ends and weighing 534.4g), one roll amongst the 2700+ roll hoard which after seeing it can only be described as the Long Island Vault Hoard. Inside the vault are hundreds upon hundreds of dollar rolls. Some are 10 coin rolls some are 20, most are hand marked as to what’s inside and most have covered ends. We have opened about 20 of the rolls and have not found any that were mismarked. The vault at one point I believe had the rolls separated into three sections. The markings standard, premium, limited were marked on the sections. Additionally there was a small safe inside the vault marked “Reserve”. The agreement with for the Consignee is that we wire on Friday their portion of the funds for any rolls paid that week and on Mondays we will send our runner up to Long Island to retrieve the rolls for shipment that week from our offices as well as photographing the rolls for the next weeks auction. We have opened about 20 of the rolls and have not found any that were mismarked. The vault at one point I believe had the rolls separated into three sections. The markings standard, premium, limited were marked on the sections. Additionally there was a small safe inside the vault marked “Reserve”. But when we first the saw the hoard, the sections were empty as was the small safe. It appeared that at some point the rolls were all put into canvas bank bags, which bags were all lying on the floor of the vault. Civil War Era Boston, Hartford & Erie Railroad $35 Note Grades Choice AU/BU Slider. One hundred and fifty years ago, in June 1863, the Boston, Hartford & Erie Railroad was incorporated with the goal of forming a gateway to western markets for New England goods and of bringing coal from Pennsylvania into New England by way of Newburgh, New York, to Waterbury, Connecticut, and beyond. Its lofty goal disintegrated when it came under the control of “as ribald a bunch of crooks as railroad history has ever produced,” wrote D.W. McLaughlin in his article “Poughkeepsie Gateway,” for the October 1968 issue of the Bulletin of the Railway & Locomotive Historical Society. The railroad ran into a myriad of troubles, including the realization that building an east-west route across Connecticut would involve navigating the state’s ridge lines, the problem of aligning with the non-standard gauge of track on the Erie Railroad (the western line it would hook up with once the railroad cars crossed the Hudson River), and the lack of a bridge for which to travel over the river. That apparently did not stop the railroad’s promoters from selling stock in the line, which they proceeded to mercilessly raid and pillage. The legislature of the state of Massachusetts was persuaded to give $3,000,000 in grants, odd in that the bulk of the railroad didn’t actually travel in that state, as it went into Connecticut. By the time the graft caught up with all the players, in 1870, the railroad was in bankruptcy with a mere $10.00 left in its accounts, Massachusetts was out all of the money it invested, and very little actual railroad track was ever laid. The remaining assets were transferred to the receivers of the New York & New England Railroad, who rerouted the railroad line from New York City to Boston and eventually became part of the New Haven Railroad system.

Very Cool 1872 $50 South Carolina, Columbia Obsolete Currency Note SCCR-8 George Washinton Graded cu66 EPQ By PMG. These Very Cool Notes Are Nearly 150 Years Old . They were issued as an “IOU” to investors of the Blue Ridge Railroad Company, toward a tri-state railroad link-up that would facilitate trade in South Carolina. Enormous amounts of capital were necessary for railroad construction, some from private sources, but much of it came from state and local government funding. Each $50 note features a central portrait of George Washington that’s actually the same image we see on our current $1 bill—only much more detailed. On either side of this portrait are vignettes referring to South Carolina’s agricultural heritage. On the right is an image of a farm hand carrying a basket of cotton while with others can be seen picking cotton in the background. On the left is an image of a wagon full of cotton bales being pulled by horses who seem to be struggling under its weight. The kingdom was proclaimed by Mithridates I in 281 BC and lasted until its conquest by the Roman Republic in 63 BC. The Kingdom of Pontus reached its largest extent under Mithridates VI the Great, who conquered Colchis, Cappadocia, Bithynia, the Greek colonies of the Tauric Chersonesos, and for a brief time the Roman province of Asia. After a long struggle with Rome in the Mithridatic Wars, Pontus was defeated.

It appeared that at some point the rolls were all put into canvas bank bags, which bags were all lying on the floor of the vault. Very Cool 1872 $50 South Carolina, Columbia Obsolete Currency Note SCCR-8 George Washinton Graded cu66 EPQ By PMG. These Very Cool Notes Are Nearly 150 Years Old . They were issued as an “IOU” to investors of the Blue Ridge Railroad Company, toward a tri-state railroad link-up that would facilitate trade in South Carolina. Enormous amounts of capital were necessary for railroad construction, some from private sources, but much of it came from state and local government funding. Each $50 note features a central portrait of George Washington that’s actually the same image we see on our current $1 bill—only much more detailed. On either side of this portrait are vignettes referring to South Carolina’s agricultural heritage. On the right is an image of a farm hand carrying a basket of cotton while with others can be seen picking cotton in the background. On the left is an image of a wagon full of cotton bales being pulled by horses who seem to be struggling under its weight. All of these designs are extraordinarily intricate and are a testament to the skill used to create the designs printed on this note!Taken To The Cleaners By The State Of South Carolina!When the news broke that the state of South Carolina needed millions of dollars to finance the reconstruction of the railroad, it seemed like a no-lose deal. The Cost Of Mounting And Framing This Alone is over $100 Beautiful $1000 Revenue Bond Certificate from the State of New York for Payment of Bounties to Volunteers issued in 1865. This historic document was printed by the National Banknote Company and has an ornate border around it with a vignette of an allegorical woman sitting with an eagle perched on her hand. This item is hand signed by the State Comptroller, Lucius Robinson and is countersigned. This historic document is over 148 years old. Ink and cut cancellations. Payment of bounties were made during the Civil War The to encourage enlistments in the armed forces. Lucius Robinson (November 4, 1810, Windham, Greene County, New York - March 23, 1891, Elmira, Chemung County, New York) was an American lawyer and politician. He was Governor of New York from 1877 to 1879. He graduated from Delaware Academy in Delhi, New York. Afterwards he studied law in the offices of Erastus Root and Amasa J. Parker, was admitted to the bar in 1832, and commenced practice in Catskill, N.Y. He was District Attorney of Greene County from 1837 to 1840. Then he removed to New York City and became a member of Tammany Hall. He joined the Republican Party when it was founded, and representing this party was a member from Chemung County of the New York State Assembly in 1860 and 1861. He was New York State Comptroller from 1862 to 1865. In 1861, he was elected on the Union ticket nominated by Republicans and War Democrats. In 1863 he was defeated for re-nomination at the Union state convention, but the nominated candidadte refused to run, and the Republican State Committee put Robinson back on the ticket, and he was re-elected. After the war he joined the Democratic Party again, and was re-nominated for Comptroller on the Democratic ticket, but this time was defeated by the Republican candidate Thomas Hillhouse. After his defeat he resumed the practice of law. In 1871-72 he was a member of the New York State Constitutional Commission. He was a director of the Erie Railroad, and was Acting President of the company while the President Peter H. Watson was travelling about Europe. In 1875, he was again elected State Comptroller defeating the Republican candidate, former United States Treasurer Francis E. Spinner. While serving as Comptroller, he was elected Governor, and was in office from 1877 to 1879, the first governor to serve a three-year term after the amendment to the state constitution in 1874. As governor, he opposed Tammany Hall vigorously what led the Tammany leader John Kelly to have himself nominated for Governor by Tammany Hall at the next election in 1879 with the intention to split the Democratic vote, and so defeat Robinson. This happened, and the Republican candidate Alonzo B. Cornell was elected Governor with less votes than Robinson and Kelly together. Robinson was a delegate to the 1876 Democratic National Convention and supported Samuel J. Tilden for President. He died from pneumonia, and was buried at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira. Up for auction is a (10 coin roll marked “Unc Peace Limited” and having two covered ends and weighing 270.3g), one roll amongst the 2700+ roll hoard which after seeing it can only be described as the Long Island Vault Hoard. Inside the vault are hundreds upon hundreds of dollar rolls. Some are 10 coin rolls some are 20, most are hand marked as to what’s inside and most have covered ends. We have opened about 20 of the rolls and have not found any that were mismarked. The vault at one point I believe had the rolls separated into three sections. The markings standard, premium, limited were marked on the sections. Additionally there was a small safe inside the vault marked “Reserve”. But when we first the saw the hoard, the sections were empty as was the small safe. It appeared that at some point the rolls were all put into canvas bank bags, which bags were all lying on the floor of the vault. The agreement with for the Consignee is that we wire on Friday their portion of the funds for any rolls paid that week and on Mondays we will send our runner up to Long Island to retrieve the rolls for shipment that week from our offices as well as photographing the rolls for the next weeks auction. Very Cool 1872 $50 South Carolina, Columbia Obsolete Currency Note SCCR-8 George Washinton Graded cu66 EPQ By PMG. These Very Cool Notes Are Nearly 150 Years Old . They were issued as an “IOU” to investors of the Blue Ridge Railroad Company, toward a tri-state railroad link-up that would facilitate trade in South Carolina. Enormous amounts of capital were necessary for railroad construction, some from private sources, but much of it came from state and local government funding. Each $50 note features a central portrait of George Washington that’s actually the same image we see on our current $1 bill—only much more detailed. On either side of this portrait are vignettes referring to South Carolina’s agricultural heritage. On the right is an image of a farm hand carrying a basket of cotton while with others can be seen picking cotton in the background. On the left is an image of a wagon full of cotton bales being pulled by horses who seem to be struggling under its weight. All of these designs are extraordinarily intricate and are a testament to the skill used to create the designs printed on this note!Taken To The Cleaners By The State Of South Carolina!When the news broke that the state of South Carolina needed millions of dollars to finance the reconstruction of the railroad, it seemed like a no-lose deal.
