One of their most distinctive qualities is the blue Treasury seal and serial numbers. 1883 Hawaii Dime 10c Grades vf++. The 1883 Hawaiian "umi keneta" was struck at the San Francisco Mint on U.S. dime planchets. Many were redeemed and melted after Hawaii acquired U.S. territorial statusPer Maurice Gould and Kenneth Bressett writing in Hawaiian Coins, Tokens, and Paper Money (1961): "In 1883, Claus Spreckels, a banker, sugar planter, and power behind the throne, approached the King on the subject of having a silver coinage struck for the Islands. Application was made by the Hawaiian Government for the coinage at the San Francisco mint, of one million dollars in silver denominations to correspond with the silver coins of the United States of America in fineness and weight, regulations of the 9th of November, 1883, by the Secretary of the United States Treasury." Ultimately, 250,000 Hawaiian Dimes were struck in 1883. The 1883 Hawaiian Dime has close connections to the United States because it was at Philadelphia Mint that these coins were struck. Not all the Hawaiian coins matched the U.S. coinage system exactly, but the Hawaiian Dime does -- it is the same size and purity as the U.S. Dimes of the period. The denomination or value appears twice on the reverse: first as "One Dime" and again as "Umi Keneta" (the Hawaiian transalation). In 1883, dimes, quarters, half dollars, and dollars were struck at the U.S. Mint at Philadelphia for Hawaii. These coins display a bust of the King David Kalakaua. The sizes of the coins match those of United States coins and, although the Hawaiian coins bore unusual Hawaiian denominations, they were valued the same as their U.S. counterparts.

The ethnic group inhabiting this kingdom are known as the Lydians, and their language as Lydian and their capital was Sardis. The Kingdom of Lydia existed from about 1200 BC to 546 BC. At its greatest extent, during the 7th century BC, it covered all of western Anatolia. In 546 BC, it became a satrapy of the Achaemenid Empire, known as Sparda in Old Persian. In 133 BC, it became part of the Roman province of Asia. Antiochus II Theos was a Greek king of the Hellenistic Seleucid Empire who reigned from 261 to 246 BC. It was the darkest days of World War II, just after Pearl Harbor. Were the Nazis under Field Marshall Rommel preparing a massive push through North Africa? This note does not have the familiar "In God We Trust" motto on the reverse, though, as that motto was not added until 1957.

It was the darkest days of World War II, just after Pearl Harbor. Everybody in Hawaii was sitting on pins and needles. Were the Japanese preparing a massive invasion of the islands? If they did invade, they could use the millions of dollars in currency on the islands to buy war material. To thwart this, these $1 Federal Reserve Notes were sent to the islands. Each has a large HAWAII printed on the reverse. If the Japanese did invade, the currency would be demonetized. After the threat passed, most of these "Hawaii" Notes were destroyed. Today they're hard to find.

Unlike the 1838-C half eagle, this issue is not well recognized by non-specialists. Christian Gobrecht’s design features a liberty head with the mintmark placed on the obverse. In 1840, the treatment of the head was changed substantially. The “Head of 1839” shows the back of back of the hairbun further from the tenth star and the neck more curved than on the “Head of 1840.” The Head of 1839 also shows the right end of the neck further from the final star than on the Head of 1840. Finally, on the Head of 1839, the series of curls at the rear of Liberty’s neck show an entirely shape and composition than those seen on the Head of 1840.The 1839-C half eagle is a scarce issue. The 1839-C has become more popular in recent years as collectors’ interest in one-year types and issues from the various branch mints has increased. For collectors who focus on Charlotte gold type, the 1839-C half eagle is an essential issue, and this has further increased recent demand. 348-350 AD Ancient Rome Constans Hut Type 23mm 3.88g Ancient Grades xf. Flavius Julius Constans (c. 323 – 350), also called Constans I, was Roman emperor from 337 to 350. He held the imperial rank of caesar from 333, and was the youngest son of Constantine the Great. After his father's death, he was made augustus alongside his brothers in September 337. Constans was given the administration of the praetorian prefectures of Italy, Illyricum, and Africa. "Hut" coins show (in the words of The Roman Imperial Coinage) "a helmeted soldier, spear in left hand, advancing right, head left; with his right hand he leads a small bare-headed figure from a hut beneath a tree."

*EXCLUSIVE* Hand Marked " Morgan Limited," x10 coin Covered End Roll! - Huge Vault Hoard (FC). Up for auction is a (10 coin roll marked “Morgan Limited” and having two covered ends and weighing 267.6g), one roll amongst the 2700+ roll hoard which after seeing it can only be described as the Long Island Vault Hoard. Inside the vault are hundreds upon hundreds of dollar rolls. Some are 10 coin rolls some are 20, most are hand marked as to what’s inside and most have covered ends. We have opened about 20 of the rolls and have not found any that were mismarked. The vault at one point I believe had the rolls separated into three sections. The markings standard, premium, limited were marked on the sections. Additionally there was a small safe inside the vault marked “Reserve”. But when we first the saw the hoard, the sections were empty as was the small safe. It appeared that at some point the rolls were all put into canvas bank bags, which bags were all lying on the floor of the vault. The agreement with for the Consignee is that we wire on Friday their portion of the funds for any rolls paid that week and on Mondays we will send our runner up to Long Island to retrieve the rolls for shipment that week from our offices as well as photographing the rolls for the next weeks auction.
