Lever action, dropping block single shot musket,. 22 short caliber. Known as the "winder" model, with a 28" round barrel with elevated dovetail front sight and original Lyman rear sight. Varnished walnut stock and fore-end with sling and mounts. Named after the famed marksman, Col. C.B. Winder. This musket style was only made from January 1918 to 1920 in three variations. Of the estimated 12,750 3rd variation Winder Muskets manufactured, 11,419 of them were shipped to the United States Army's Springfield armory. This musket bears the ordinance marks of US and the flaming bomb indicating it was received by the Springfield Armory specifically for the US Army for marksmanship training. This is a very rare rifle, properly marked and in beautiful condition.
