"The Prairie is in a constant state of flux, with ever-changing colors because of changes in temperature and wind. I want the viewer to feel this excitement and energy in my work. My work can be described as abstractions with a reference to nature. I use Silk Painting for these sky paintings, an ancient technique that originated in Asia. The dye on silk has a brightness and sheen that intensifies the color found in my subject. The dye is applied with a brush, and various resists are used to control the flow of the dye." Dye on Silk. Framed, 18.5H x 33.5W. Diane Lawrence's focus has always been color. She tries to achieve colors so intense that the viewer is drawn to the artwork, like a moth to a flame. Diane is a graduate of Kansas City Art Institute and is represented by SNW Gallery in Manhattan. Her work is in many corporate and private collections.
