"To me, the American Prairie is not a place of fragile and gentle things. It's rough and strong, full of wild and gritty creatures that will speak to you. Ask the Indian grass about her life on the prairie, and she will tell you of storms weathered while deepening her roots into the soil in preparation for what is to come. This inspires me to make thickly textured art as visceral as the prairie itself. Along with paint and inks, I use hand-gathered materials such as wild sage, soil, river silt, grain, and rust to form texture and color."
