Lead Lisa Grossman "Solstice Eve"
Description
"I moved to this region in 1988, and my first encounter with the Tallgrass prairies forever changed the trajectory of my life and work. Painting on location in the expansive grasslands continually enthralls me, and my work has been an exploration of what it feels like to be in that space. This painting was done on location in the Konza Prairie Biological Station near Manhattan, Kansas, on the night before the winter solstice, 2023. The day was entirely gray until the searing red light burst through right before sunset." Oil on Canvas. Framed, 10.5H x 37.5W. Lisa Grossman is a painter and printmaker based in Lawrence, Kansas, since 1996, whose work focuses on the prairies and river valleys of Eastern Kansas. Lisa has had thirty-plus solo shows around the Midwest and on either coast, and over 1800 of her works are included in public, private, corporate, and museum collections. Lisa is a 2019 Phoenix Award recipient, an honor from the City of Lawrence for artistic achievement, as well as an eight-time artist-in-resident in our national parks. She has degrees from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and the University of Kansas and is represented by Haw/Contemporary in Kansas City and SNW Gallery in Manhattan, Kansas.
